unkemptpueblo said: thekidsgirl said: blaqk audio - Cexcells How do you like that Blaqk Audio? Critics havent been too kind, but hey. What do you think? Gawd! the critics ripped Davey and Jade a new one for making this album But I think its pretty good. It's not really for anyone looking for AFI's typical sound. This album reminds me alot of Human League. Its very electronic and seriously has that cold sterile feel to it. I'm already a big fan of AFI, so I had to get it, but I wouldn't recommend it for people expecting AFI and thats where I think some of the bad reviews stem from. I was reading one by a guy who was obviously a fan of their older punk sound, and of course he had nothing good to say, but I had to ask myself, ..."If I was a strictly punk fan, would I really expect to like an electronic album just because it was by a band that has made punk records?" Long story short...I like the album alot. It can get kinda monotonous to listen to straight through, but its a pretty good venture into yet another new genre for them If you will, so will I

I've been trying to cut down on purchases. But here's what I've bought lately:
Stanley Clarke's "East River Drive" -- I had it on tape, when "Poetic Justice" came out and just needed to update my catalog. Eric Clapton's "Behind the Sun" -- haven't listened to it yet. Lonnie Smith et. al. "Afrodesia" -- it's cool. The personnel lists are a bit confusing as to who is actually playing. But George Benson, Ron Carter, Dr. Lonnie Smith and a bunch of other people are credited.

Ear Drum -- Talib Kweli Finding Forever -- Common Eardrum is excellent! Is most of Madlibs production as lush as 'Still the New DAy"? To me, thats the tightest track on the album. A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE.

Team/ Proof of Youth (2007) [ just got this album a day or so ago from a friend, so I'll check this out soon enough. still debating if I'm going to see them this weekend in concert. i need to hurry up and absorb this! ] ya know, i'm not thrilled with the new go team album, but i wouldn't pass up a chance to see them live. i saw them at lollapalooza last year in chicago, and they kicked my ass. the lead singer chick is great fun to watch. Thanks. I'll definitely keep this in mind when making up my mind. But I did finally get a chance to listen to the album this afternoon. My standout right now is "Doing It Right." I kept repeating that one.

Lola really kicked ass live. Also, she did a track called "White Girl" (which I lovedd) and that darn song was stuck in my head. It was SO delicious. well, --->it seems you never go to a gig w/out your trusty cam-oo-rah<---, so lets see em! You've noticed! Welllll, since you askedddd. Here's some shots I got off my phone (I couldn't get any of Meshell because she is very strict about any kind of cameras or flash photography while she performs -- due to her epilepsy. Here's the scene right when I left the venue after the show. They were playing old school hip hop [Fat Boys, Special Ed, etc.] And here's a shot of some posters I saw on a liquor store in Brooklyn. OH YEAH, COREY GLOVER (of Living Colour) was in the AUDIENCE! I said hi to him after the show. My little fam moment. lol

Not as immediately blissful as 2002's Kittenz And Thee Glitz, but my rating may change after a few more listens. Hey sexton, I checked out a little of the album. I like "Something 4 Porno." I saw a bit of the video [wooo, what a video, lol].

His beats are usually as soulful but not that polished, I swear someone went in and did post-production on "Still The New Day" (I agree though, that's the reason I bought the album).
