Let's go on a vinyl dig this weekend.

I've got a little money set aside to pay down on my huge credit card debt but I think I'm going to take a little of it and have some fun, something I haven't had in months. I long for some more music but the normal record stores that sell CDs don't have a damn thing in them that I want and don't already have. I think I'm going to make that long drive to the country tomorrow (that's where our only used record store is) and go on a vinyl dig.

Of course, I'll be starting with the A's in the R&B section and browsing my way through the Z's, which will take a while, so I can see what they have that I may not have thought of. I am, however, looking for a few things in particular such as:

Hot On The Tracks - The Commodores (thanks to Soul Alive)
A Taste of Honey's second album
Food Stamps Y'all - whatever album it's on by The Ohio Players (thanks to Finess)
Some Michael Henderson albums (I already have "Wide Receiver")
Mystic Merlin (thanks to Funkenstein, I just hope I can find it)
Some Raydio albums (thanks to Funkpill)

Also, Soul Train has inspired me to look for a few things such as:

Mtume's 1980 or 1981 album
Pockets
War (the Spanish instrumental song used in the line dance on one of the 70s episode)
Peace Pipe - BT Express
Honey I - George McCrae
Saturday, Saturday Night - Zoom

Y'all come on, join me this weekend, and go on a vinyl dig. If you do, what in particular will you be looking for if you can find it?

I always stop the car when I find a spot selling vinyls. You'll never know what you'll find.

I have that one already but when you mentioned you were going on a vinyl dig this weekend, that's what made me decide I wanted to go on one also. These regular record stores don't have anything and they have stopped carrying most of the complete albums by old artists and only carry greatest hits collections (which I already have).

Me too. There was this group of buildings that are rented out for people to have flea markets. Most of the time, it is usually old furniture that looks like it came from Fred Sanford's junkyard. However, I happened to be in one that a Chinese couple had rented out. They had a whole crate of R&B vinyl from the late 70s/early 80s that some ex-DJ turned crackhead had sold to them for crack money. They didn't know what they had because they were selling each album for only a quarter and they were in excellent condition except for the covers which had "Finesse" written on them. I bought so many albums that day, I could barely carry them to the car. lol

I haven't been on a vinyl dig in three years. It was at a record store in my hometown of columbia, sc. They had what they called a stanky 70's record sale. I got 4 isley brothers albums for 1 dollar. I got a natalie cole live album. I got the commodores midnight magic. Cameo's feel me. I also got slave the concept for 50 cents. I also got a rare mass production album called in a city groove for a quarter. That is the last good vinyl dig i have been on.
If i get a chance i might join the party this weekend. I would like to find
Mass production-3 miles high
Raydio
Confunkshun-Fever
Ebonee Webb, kwik (probably not a chance in hell i will find it)

That album is great, I got my first copy off my Aunt back in 98 and I've been blasting it ever since.

Here's what I'm looking for Vain:

Lakeside "Rough Riders" LP - I need this album to almost complete my Solar records collection.

Shalamar "Go For It" LP - I need this album to complete my Solar collection, LOL!!

Mass Production "Fire Cracker" 12" Single - I already have they're album "In The Purest Form" now I want the single.

Diana Ross "Upside Down" 12" single - I need the original 12", I have a Motown 12" with this song on side A and Rick James' "Big Time" on side B.

Side Effect "Goin Bananas" 12" single - I love this song, especially the horn breakdowns.

Brick "Ain't Gonna Hurt Nobody" 12" single - I have the album but I want this single, it's my favorite Brick song handsdown.

I feel on the "SoulTrain" influence Vain, I've picked up quite a few albums based on some these old episodes since they statred showing them back in December.

hmmm Actually, I wouldn't need to dig for that one b/c its in my basement as it turns out. Before I start vinyl digging, I usually like to surf my own collection first.

Nice selection Vainandy!. I am afraid I will have the vinyl bug this w/e too.
I am going to flea markets every weekend to buy vinyls. Sometimes I have a clear idea of what I want to get, most of the times the sellers put some records on the side for me which happen to be very good most of the time.
Regular chats with sellers is good and they also get to know what you like too.
Vinyl shopping is always an adventure and a very exciting one.
Happy search everybody!

'Hot On The Tracks' is a great album fro
Nice to see that I've 'inspired' you in some way (i.e. Mystic Merlin).
Get 'In The Night-Time' by Henderson. That's a good album cool
The B.T. Express album that has 'Peace Pipe' on it is called 'Non-Stop'. It's their second album. I just bought it a week ago.

Ok, here's what I'm looking for...

The Gap Band's 1977 album, 'The Gap Band', that was released on the Tattoo label. They released 'The Gap Band' on Mercury in 1979 (a completely different album).
So, what I'm looking for is the Tattoo release (though, Imma have to get a vinyl copy of the 1979 'The Gap Band' at some point too cool )

Exactly. They have played so many songs that I had completely forgotten since the radio these days only plays artists' biggest hits.

I would have said the exact same thing. Queens love some disco and house.....at least the cool ones anyway. The tired ones are into Barbara Streisand and Shitney Houston. lol

$1,500 my ass. Hell, that's chump change. I wish all I owed was $1,500. Last year I transferred three credit cards at a finance charge in the late 20 percents over to one card at a 5 percent finance charge. Since then I've paid that motherfucker down from $13,000 down to $9,800.

Vain Andy ain't looked so vain lately. I've been dressing in rags and my hair has been "normal" which is something I don't do.....ever. I've gained back all the weight I lost because it's cheaper to eat fattening than it is to eat healthy.....and these motherfuckers ain't making things any better with this slow ass music these days. Dammitt, you just don't know how bad I need some ass shakin' music. My vanity depends on it. lol
