I can't believe all the positive reactions! I expected so much more from this, it's nowhere near the brilliance of the other Radiohead albums. It's almost as if they didn't develop at all the last 4 years. It's not even close to The Eraser in terms of dept.
Of course it's an attractive album, 15 step, Nude and Videotape are great.
But not in Radiohead terms. sad

In terms of quality.. this album packs a huge punch. Every song is back to back solid. Very detailed songs..

not to mention the melodies are beautiful..

we all have our own ears, I get an Ok Computer vibe from Rainbows, I like everything I am hearing so far and I very pleased with the new material. Very moving and creative, cold and emotional all at the same time.

It's just so surprising to hear such an explicitly sentimental album from them.

Radiohead's often had a melancholic detached sound, but here the songs are shamelessly personal and full of warm yearnings and mellow agony.

It's their least cynical, least sarcastic album to date; it's so honest and up-front.

Old Thom loves to repeat his lines lots doesn't he.

I think he went to the Le Bon/Bono school of lyrics. Perfection in talking bollocks whilst sounding deep. biggrin

Completely disagree. This album has some of his most poignant lyrics about love and relationships.

Thom's lyrical strength has always been making powerful statements amidst apparent random chaos.

That sound so pretentious you have no idea!

Ok, lets take the first set of lyrics. Please explain what you think 15 Steps is about and how Tom is making "powerful statements amidst apparent random chaos"

?? lol

Agreed.Though I think It's prolly the warmest I've ever heard Radiohead sound.
It's a very soothing record and mellow but not boring and tired. Just tranquil and peaceful. Even the up tempo stuff sounds relaxing yet it still rocks. Hard to put into words. Great stuff nontheless.IMO
Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

This is the album's genius. It starts off with a lot of energy about special people changing when you get close to them, and all the disappointment (15 Step), then it shifts to restlessness and confusion (Bodysnatchers) before taking a plunge into mellow sadness with Nude and somber yearning onwards until it hits Videotape and just quietly reflects.

I'm saying that Thom often repeats lines over again, and that's part of the sound of confusion and chaos, but in between are really powerful, highly personal lines.

I think it's a bit hypocritical for a Prince board to act as if a musical act has to put out pinnacle-level albums on every release. Saying "In Rainbows" lacks the significance of, say, "OK Computer" and therefore fails is the exact quagmire folks have claimed Prince detractors have been stuck in.

If Prince can put out a light, enjoyable album that sports nuance over awe, why can't a critically acclaimed group such as Radiohead?
