"Alternative" Christmas albums: Claudja Barry's "Disco Round the Christmas Tree" I'm sure people if they like Christmas music tend to like it sort of tradational. R&B and country artists tend to make Christmas albums and put light spins on the classics. Sometimes a Christina Aqerlia might make a dancey pop Xmas tune but in general, for years, it was sort of scared in its light pop sound.
Well Cladja Barry's 1995 (that's right, not during the disco era but well after) takes Xmas music and sets it to a disco beat. When Donna Summer's "Christmas Spirit" came out, people might have assumed a disco Christmas (in the post disco era) already happened but one year later this came out. The production is pretty stale and Claudja seems to be singing to a track without any edits (don't know if you would consider it live...I'm sure there is a term for it). Claudja's voice is good but in general this is a very poorly produced set that sounds as stale and tacky as you think but there is one great exception I can't stop listening to. Her rendition of "Feliz Navadid" is a lot of fun and seems the track she is most into as a singer. The beat is great here and adds to the fun classic that Claudja makes her own. I actually bought this album in August when I found it in the disco section. I was surprised to see it for $15.99 since I have seen it really expensive online from dealers (the price as lowered....sometimes you see a few dealers make an item look much more rare than it is and this was probably the case). Anyway, I've been listening to it in my car once in a while and its cool. I have a good selection of Christmas CDs and this one is certainly the most unusual. So please feel free to comment on this CD if you got it or post and discuss your favorite alternative Christmas album.

No love for this topic? Anytime I mention Claudja Barry, I get no responses! I just should have kept the topic Alternative Christmas albums.
