Top 3? Wow. I've D/L'd but haven't listened to it yet. I'm refraining from reading "reviews" per se so I can have a fresh untainted perspective. Just kinda glancing at comments. Everyone seems to love it. I will listen when I have a chance to "experience" it fully with no distractions. This is an event. Fantasy is reality in the world today. Okay this is getting ridiculous. Is it "uncool" to actually post the link to the site you're downloading this from?
I tried googling but only came up with www.radiohead.com (where there was nothing to download) and www.inrainbows.com (which doesn't load at all for me).

I don't get it....they are releasing it as a physical CD as well?

Only had two listens so far, but "Nude", "All I Need", "House Of Cards" and "Jigsaw Falling Into Place" seem to be haunting me these last few hours-
it appears to be all the best elements from the last three albums to produce a great mixture of sounds etc. I will still buy the physical CD when it's released as I'm a sucker for artwork and actually running into HMV to see it on the shelves! "There is no such thing in life as normal..."

I'm noticing more and more things about the songs the more I listen. This really is a work of art.
15 Step might be the closest Radiohead ever comes to a dance song; with its drum beat, it's almost like a more organic sounding version of Idioteque. I love Nude's atmospheric mood; the melody just puts me in a trance. I love House Of Cards' laid-back drum line that gives it a certain hypnotic quality; not to mention the hollow echo that adds a feeling of loneliness. I love the denseness of All I Need's bass. I love Videotape's minimalist drum beat that adds to the sad feeling of quietly saying goodbye to someone. I just love this album. There are so many fine touches. This is the freshest this band has sounded in years and years. [Edited 10/10/07 12:14pm] The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I ordered the discbox but haven't yet received my download details yet. I notice they've managed to charge my credit card already.
Can't wait to hear the album. I got to say it's more than a little annoying. Anyone else order the box set and not got the details sent to them?

I've read that we will have a physical release in shops in early 2008. I'm looking forward to that one.
The discobox is a bit expensive for me!

What I like about it so far is that IN Rainbows sounds like a blend of all the styles they've done since OKC. It has the darkness and creepiness of OKC, the ethereal, computer phonics of KID and Amnesiac and the roughness from The Bends and Hail To. I'm shocked, but not really surprised that this isn't on a major label, it's so good that a major label would screw up the promotional end of the deal and stick them in the indy ghetto bin. I'll give it a few more spins to get an honest feel, but so far I love it, too bad I'll have to wait two more months for my deluxe package, it's already paid for. Jeux Sans Frontiers

Yep, I've ordered the box set & got my link this today. I'm now listening to it for the 2nd time & loving it. There's no artwork but NME.com have made some up so you can put that into i-tunes or whatever you use for the time being.

Yeah, I totally agree. It has the musical richness of OK Computer, but it's more mellow. It has the ethereal atmosphere of Kid A, but it's less abstract. And yeah, it even has the raw hooks of The Bends. I don't draw much of a comparison to HTTT, though. To me, that album's overly polished production ended up swallowing the songs. In Rainbows avoided that trap, thank God. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

i downloaded it this morning with a minimum of fuss or hassle. i was impressed!
i've listened to it a couple of times today...it's nothing new or revolutionary from radiohead, but given the huge gap between albums it's nice just to hear new melodies from the group. i think it holds up quite well with all their previous albums.

That's cool, but I always found that album kind of disappointing. Songs like Pyramid Song, You and Whose Army?, and I Might Be Wrong are pure genius, but a few other songs like Morning Bell/Amnesiac, Hunting Bears, and Pulk/Pull don't match up. The album's spotty by Radiohead standards. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I know most people don't consider Amnesiac up there at the top but I do. Maybe it's because I love Kid A so much and that's the album that drew me in. I dunno. I listened to In Rainbows just once so far and I was, not floored so much as just extremely happy to have new RH. It's a great album. I have to listen more so that it can reveal more. My initial thoughts were that it was very confident sounding and very tranquil. It's going to reap many rewards from repeating listenings for sure. Just think, we'll have In Rainbows part 2 in December! Plenty of time to let part 1 marinate and resonate. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Glad I didn't pay too much for it. I found the album uninspired.
It pitches somewhere in between the vibe of the OK Computer and Amnesiac, but in doing so, fails to live up to either. The song writing is simply weak compared to OK computer and the sounds are flat compared to the new ground they were hitting with Amnesiac. There are a couple of gems, Nude being the best, but all in all, this feels like the album the public wanted as the follow up to OK computer instead of the release of Kid A. It almost feels like it bridges the gap between those two periods. The thing is. Its seven years too late. .

I haven't given up of it, but I don't know how many more spins it will get. I've listened to it about 10 time now, and still there is nothing there to get anywhere near the originality or brilliance of something like Street Spirit or Spinning Plates. This is Radioheads "Planet Earth". [Edited 10/11/07 9:06am] .

i don't really hear anything new on this record, but in a way, that's comforting. they're not meandering or noodling around like they did at times on kid a and amnesiac, and from what i can gather, they're not fussing around as much with political overtones like on their last album (which is fine, but kinda limits where your imagination can go with the music at times)...it's radiohead being radiohead without any iffy chancey risky meanderings, and at this point, that's exactly what i'm in the mood for from them. don't get me wrong, i like "departure" albums by my favorite artists, but after the long gap between radiohead releases, i'm enjoying the familiarity of "in rainbows".
