That is a tight little album. It's the oldest album on that list. And I thought mine was too modern.

It's always changing. This is a list I did for a poll I participated in about a year ago, and if I was to revisit it now, there would definitely be some renovations - Smog and Opal would move up, and Grant Mclennan and one of those Scott Walker albums would take a hike, probably.
1 ) Cale, John - Paris 1919 2 ) Fall, The - Hex Enduction Hour 3 ) Dylan, Bob - Blonde on Blonde 4 ) Wire - Pink Flag 5 ) Fall, The - This Nation's Saving Grace 6 ) Love - Forever Changes 7 ) Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited 8 ) Can - Future Days 9 ) Public Image Ltd. - Metal Box 10 ) McLennan, Grant - Horsebreaker Star 11 ) Bryars, Gavin - Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet 12 ) Fall, The - Grotesque 13 ) Clark, Gene - No Other 14 ) Kinks, The - Village Green Preservation Society 15 ) Feelies, The - Only Life 16 ) Walker, Scott - Tilt 17 ) High Llamas - Hawaii 18 ) Can - Tago Mago 19 ) Fall, The - Slates 20 ) Walker, Scott - 2

Shapeshifter's a fan, I'm reasonably sure. I think they're just one of the great bands of all time - fun, weird, rhythmic and ugly in the way I like. You described them perfectly once, actually - crackers, I wish I could remember the exact phrase you used. I might have to try tracing that thread down...

They certainly have a high pedigree, but I don't think of them as snobs, per se. It takes a certain level of arrogance for that. I'll call them connoisseurs.

Honestly (not to make this about me or anything) I think I've got pretty standard musical tastes for the most part. Three of my top four acts are Dylan, the Stones and the Beatles - not that radical, really. I'm not trying to blow smoke or anything when I say that I think you and Sextonseven have more exotic tastes than I. [Edited 10/4/07 19:13pm]
