I don't mind Van Morrison. "You Shook Me All Night Long", "Freebird", "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Brown Eyed Girl".
I like these songs quite a lot.

I like these songs quite a lot. I'm not a fan of "Freebird," I can tolerate "Sweet Home Alabama," and I kinda like "You Shook Me All Night Long" and "Brown Eyed Girl." OTOH, I love "Hotel California" -- my favorite Eagles song by a country mile. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

That being said, Madonna's version is even worse IMO; it's the worst thing she's ever done. I actually don't mind Jordan Knight's "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man." It works as a ballad. You're fucking nuts. American Pie has got brilliant lyrics, but I hope to God no one ever tries to update it now. Can you imagine how long the telling of the History of Rock would take in 2007? I hope you're not including the chorus. "Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry" makes me cringe each and every time I hear it. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I hope you're not including the chorus. "Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry" makes me cringe each and every time I hear it. Choruses in most songs are generally pretty meaningless. Most of the time they're just filler; repetitive fulff designed to hold the verses that hold the real substance of the song together. I adore the verses in American Pie, though I don't know why so many people think they're hard to interpret. It's the History of Rock music up 'til the point the song was written, and pretty clearcut IMO. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"
