Man the book was an interesting read. I mean he "wrote" it. With no help from an experienced author. Believe me it shows. Some Chapters are 1 or two pages!!!!! It has some what people may perceive as juicy info. But in my opinion the Miles Davis autobiography is model for how autobio showed be and this autobio is no where near close to being that good or informative.

The book is not well written but, it has all sorts of juicy info. I would grab it before it goes out of print.

To me its informative since I'm not that hip to Slick Rick's history.

But I agree, Miles Davis' autobio was just grand.

No offence to his fans, but this man was an abuser of women - big time. Even though he released some very funky music in his time I can't get over the fact that he was so sexually abusive. I know we have to focus on his music, but whenever I hear is stuff, I can't help but think of the sexual abuse and that instantly turns me off.

All of them are, ALL of them.

From Marvin Gaye to Al Green, from Ike Turner to John Lennon, from Miles Davis to Rick James.

Not condoning them by any means,,,,but singling out Rick is insane.

evillol This is instant comedy. Has anyone seen rock stars who were saints? Have yet to meet one that is? Rock stars are human like anyone else and have faults like everybody else. And not all Rock Stars go gung ho with the Sex, Drugs, & Rock N Roll persona. So it wouldn't be fair to generalize all Rock Stars as being the same either.

As for Rick , Yes he was rebel who didn't give a damn, said what he felt and lived his life to the fucking fullest. One thing for sure wasn't about fascades. What you saw is what you get and he wasn't hiding behind a religious affliations or hags constantly getting married over and over to fool the public.
As for his autobiography, the publisher rushed it out to early without doing the needed revisions. And that its only ahcilles heel. Otherwise, what you read is pure uncut raw to core Slick Rick.

This thread is about Rick, so that's why I mention him exclusively.

Yes, I do agree that many men were/are abusive, but nothing about Rick turns me on in the least. He actually gives me the creeps to be honest with you.

Just finished reading the book...Rick is hilarious. He did put everybody on blast...."Anita Baker is the most stuck up bitch I ever met." falloff
He had me crackin up. "Christopher Reeve snorted up all my cocaine...that motherfucker really was into that Superman shit." Oh no...the man of steel was doing coke. lol Rick is a fool. I've never read a book as quickly as I read that one.

After reading the book, what's amazing to me is, after all the shit that he did, he lived to be in his 50's. I would have thought he would have died sooner.

I was evillol @ what he said about Teena Marie when he had sex with her. Speaking of - I'm in grey territory on whether her child is Rick James' or not, I understand if they wanted to keep this subject out people's mouths though.

Good point. And let's not forget that Prince has also been known to "mistreat" women too (not in a violent way,but still). In many cases, you have to separate the artist from who they are when they step offstage.

I got my copy back when it first came out and I liked it. RJ had an interesting story to tell. It's one of the best autobiographies i've read, I'd rank it in my top five no doubt!
