Donna Summer's "All Systems Go" rare video

While this is in honor of Donna being nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, let's hope now of the people voting see this one.

I've only heard the legend of it in the past but never thought of looking for it until today. Posted only a day ago! It might be one of the cheapest looking videos by a mainstream aritst on a major label (this was her last album for Geffen at the time...and she probably had a point leaving the label after this one). It's not a bad song but it seemed like many female pop singers had that strange sort of songs about or using technology/science terms, good or bad, (can't think if Madonna or Janet did one but I just saw the video for Shenna Easton's "Machinery" and Olivia had a few). Kind of charming in it's own way. It's not just the fact that she is dancing in back of all that stupid stuff but the camera look/cinematorphy. You can just tell from that type of look that it's done on the cheap. I mean, it looks like cable access from the 1980s, not a big music video. If that thing cost $10,000, someone pocketed like $9900!

I doubt they would. lol This song wasn't even released as a single in the US (maybe for good reason CONSIDERING the video). It wouldn't be the first video by a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominee/inductee that was corny as hell. I don't even think Donna remembers making this video. She was like "let's get this over with. rolleyes " Good poppy song though.

My favorite videos of Donna's were "She Works Hard for the Money", "There Goes My Baby", "Dinner with Gershwin" and "This Time I Know It's for Real" (I love the part in the end when Donna is walking away with her daughters right behind her smile).

Donna has a small DVD collection from that "20th Century" people and of the five tracks it has, it has all those expect for "Gerswhin" (instead it lists the slightly more popular "Unconditional Love" and the very fun "Love's About To Change My Mind", which is a lot like "This Time...").

"There Goes..." is the rare case, IMHO, where the video is better than the song. When her videos are great, the songs are often just as good, though. "She Works..." is a perfect mix.

"There Goes My Baby" had a great concept video to it. nod "She Works Hard..." remains her definitive music video with "Unconditional Love" right behind it. smile

The 'All Systems Go' album is a mess lol Most of the songs sound cold, mechanical and sterile. The late 80s was a horrible time for music.I like only a few songs from this album...

"Dinner With Gershwin"---nice R&B groove (for a change) and clever lyrics
"Fascination"---best track on the album! A moody, mesmerizing Quiet Storm track. If this had been recorded by someone like Sade,it would have been the hit it deserved to be.
"Love Shock"---yeah,it sounds horribly dated today but back in 1987,I thought this was a cool song.

The remaining tracks are either good or lackluster, and sometimes downright embarassing.

I think Donna has a few great videos ("She Works Hard For The Money","This Time I Know It's For Real") and a whole lot of lame, embarrassing videos ("The Wanderer","State Of Independence" and the dreadful "Supernatural Love").

You put "Love Shock" as a highlight and not the strong overproduced ballad like "Voices Crying Out"? I think even though it is cold but I think think it's better than "She Works Hard..." as a whole album and "Donna Summer" and "Cats Without Claws". Probably third among her 80s albums ("The Wanderer", "Another Place and Time" and "All Systems Go").

You gotta be kidding lol You think 'All Systems Go' is better than 'Donna Summer' and 'She Works Hard For The Money'? LOL...I think it's a vapid,over-synthesized fiasco. It is Donna's second worst-selling album ('Mistaken Identity' sold even less, lol)

I think the sound of "All Systems Go" suits Donna much better (remember, it was mostly produced by Harold Faltermeyer and Donna co-produces a track as well). I mean "Woman" alone is enough to dump "She Works Hard..." as an album (add "Love Has A Mind Of It's Own", which sounds a lot like something from "All Systems Go", but stiffer). In general, "Donna Summer" has too many cooks in the kitchen (I for one am not a huge fan of "State of Independence" and while "Protection" with Bruce is a good song, Quincy's production hampers it). Maybe "All Systems Go" isn't quite a better album but just my preference.
