I didn't really listen to her last CD all that much.
What was the consensus on that? Do I just not care anymore? I thought the remake of "One" was pretty atrocious.

Tricky Stewart is tagged on this video like he might have produced the song, and I heard Mary passed on Tricky's other banger "Umbrella" (I'm sure you've heard of it )

Oh no, is it a sample? Don't sound like it is (but the sound is '80s so anything's possible). I hope it's not. I dig it either way though. One thing for sure it's not an obvious sample as Janet's "All for You" was, LOL!

Well, Mary is famous for singing over samples so I don't know why you would be surprised BUT I was only referring to the snare drum sound

I really like the song, but it does sound like it uses a sample. I just can't put my finger on it. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Oh you were talking about the snare drum beat? Nevermind, lol. Sounds like an original song all the way through to me though.

haha her spoken intro to me sounds like she's going to start telling us about
the benefits of drinking milk or something

This song got Janet Jackson's style written ALL over, it would've been a good comeback song for her.

what i don't get though about Mary is that as of late she's been coming cross real happy and radiant, and even singin' about it, like in this song, so why Growing Pains for an album title?

I don't like the title either. Thing is, she been rehashing the same statement since No More Drama.

I don't like the title either. Thing is, she been rehashing the same statement since No More Drama. sometimes i wonder if she fears she'd lose an authentic part of her had she given up the dramatic approach, esp. that it's what seems to have drawn a really massive fan base to her. 'Cause they found someone very humanlike they could relate to? It's kinda like how Alanis had sunk commercially after doing mellow/love songs (i.e. the song Everything)

"This joint right here, this joint right here, it makes me wanna... OOH!" Nothing has changed in the last 28 years. The beginning reminds me of MJ's "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" as well. Defenitely sounds OTW influenced. Nice song though, I like it. "And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ
"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always

I heard this on the radio this morning and I was loving it! It didn't sound like anything she had ever done before. I couldn't even tell it was Mary at first.
Only thing I didn't like was that growl at the end If you will, so will I

Blige Feeling 'Fine' On New Single, Album Link Sep 27, 2008 Billboard.com Mary J. Blige has unveiled "Just Fine," the first single from her upcoming Geffen album, "Growing Pains." Produced by Christopher "Tricky" Stewart and Jazze Pha, the uptempo track comes ahead of the Nov. 27 release of "Growing Pains," the follow-up to 2005's acclaimed "The Breakthrough." Little other information about the new album has yet been announced beyond contributions from Sean Garrett, Rodney Jerkins and Bryan-Michael Cox, who won a Grammy Award for co-writing Blige's hit "Be Without You." That was one of several smashes from "The Breakthrough," which has shifted 2.96 million units in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. A week after "Growing Pains" arrives, Blige will be heard guesting on Wyclef Jean's new album, "Carnival II: Memoirs of an Immigrant," which is due Dec. 4 via Columbia.

What was the consensus on that? Do I just not care anymore? You should go listen to it again. I think it's her best since Mary. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis
