 Exactly, all someone has to do is find an old "Soul Train" episode from 1979 through 1982 and they can find someone doing the Moonwalk down the Soul Train line. For that matter, find that Jeffrey Daniel video clip where he was dancing in the club doing the Moonwalk. Hell, breakdancers were doing that move as well. It's simply a laziness on behalf of certain segments of the population. It wouldn't surprise me if someone thought Michael Jackson invented the jheri curl, or he was the reason black people started wearing the hairstyle. Yeah, I watched "Motown 25" live in 1983. It was great seeing MJ and his five brothers grown up and performing together for the first time. It was particularly touching to see Jermaine and Michael on the stage for the first time since they went their separate ways. As brilliant as his "Billie Jean" performance was, it overshadowed the reunion and you can see that MJ had started to outgrow his brothers (the fact he performed the song without his brothers onstage had an ominous tone to me even then). People talked about that performance for months. As you know, it was that (and then the video) that started Michaelmania. It's easy for anyone to think that MJ suddenly brought a new dance to the mainstream when a dance like "the moonwalk" was around for decades, it had to be perfected in the many years since Bill Bailey first did it in the 1930s. When Jeffrey did the backslide, he added more glide to the move and did the two-step (which Joe Tex, Jackie Wilson and James Brown had been doing for years) and he taught Michael this and Michael perfected it probably within minutes of learning it. Say what you want but MJ was an agile performer and he learned dance quickly more than others.
History revisionists will wanna think some mime dude was responsible for Michael but that would make his dancing a joke. Don't get me wrong. Marcel was a legend at what he did but to credit him for the "moonwalk" is really absurd. | |

I got a Shalamar concert on DVD from 1979 and sure enough Jeffery Daniel moonwalked all over that stage. | |

Jeffrey Daniels taught MJ how to backslide and some other hip hop moves, I posted a video a while ago of Jeffrey Daniels doing most of the stuff MJ is known for... | |
