Do you listen to mostly male or female artists?

I've just noticed that in the next month, I'll be on the lookout for Joni and Meshell's new CDs, and God-willing I'll be able to catch Sinead, Annie Lennox and Suzanne Vega on tour. I couldn't tell you which male artists have pending releases or tourdates, though!

As you review what you listen to, are you finding more male or female artists? And why do you think that is?

I think I listen to more male popular musicians. But I also love a number of female musicians as well.

Males 10 to 1. Women just don't do it in the music arena 4 me.
Exceptions: Meshell, Conya Doss, Ledisi, Jill Scott, Rachael Ferrell, and a few others.

The only female artist I listen to is Debbie Harry from her late 1970's early 1980's Blondie day's.

I go against the gay grain, I listen to very few female singers.

Id say that bout 85% of my music collection is male oriented.

80% WOMEN
20% MEN

vocally, women convey emotion much better than men and are more versatile IMO. as far as playing instruments i don't think sex matters. i have found however that most of the men i listen to are spanish/latin singers. maybe it's a language thing. i'm not sure. or maybe because i feel women are slightly superior to men might have something to do with it. giggle

I agree with u, but going through my iTunes lists and cds, you will find more male artists vs. female.

Come on, there is not one male singer that can give the raw emotion that singers like Patti Labelle, Phyllis Hyman and others can deliver.

Great point.
I'll add to that by saying they seem to generally have better songs for some reason.

That being said, male artists dominate my listening habits.
Maybe it's because alot of the music I listen to is instrumental.

I listen to mostly male funk bands. Come to think of it, the majority of the females I listen to usually have men behind the scenes pulling the strings such as Donna Summer with Georgio Moroder, Vanity 6 with Prince, The Mary Jane Girls with Rick James, or many of the disco and house divas who have men behind the scenes writing, producing, and playing instruments.

Women who are in charge usually make much slower, weaker, "emotional" music (yuck). Whenever I hear a female artist say....."I got a lot more involved on my upcoming album".....I know it's going to be an album full of slow shit. Although Patrice Rushen and Klymaxx are female artists that stand out and excel.

Sounds like somebody is going through some "emotional" issues.
