1 year, 1 artist, 2 great albums!

We all know how prolific Prince is, but I don't think he has had a year where he has released two great albums. It's quite a difficult feat, as the well of creativity seems hard to pan past 45 minutes in any given year.

What examples do you have of an artist releasing two great albums in one year?

Here are my nominations:

1967: The Doors- The Doors and Strange Days
1967: Jimi Hendrix- Are You Experienced and Axis: Bold As Love
1973: Roxy Music- For Your Pleasure and Stranded
1977: David Bowie- Low and "Heroes"
1983: Eurythmics- Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) and Touch

Not sure if it qualifies:

1967: The Velvet Underground- The Velvet Underground & Nico and White Light/White Heat

I'm not sure is WL/WH was released in 1967 or January '68. Any help?

Close:

1972: Stevie Wonder- Music of My Mind and Talking Book
1975: Parliament- Chocolate City and Mothership Connection
1987: Prince- Sign o' the Times and The Black Album

I think CHIC deserves an honorable mention for cranking out 4 albums in 1980; one for themselves and 3 for other artists. I'm not saying they were all great...'cause they weren't!!! By they definately get an 'E' for effort.

1980: 'Real People' (CHIC), 'diana' (Diana Ross), 'Sheila & B. Devotion', and 'Love Somebody Today' (Sister Sledge)

Imagine creating three landmark albums, participting in another and developing a new direction for music all in the span of 2 years? Check this out.

Miles Davis released these two ground-breaking sessions in 1959

Release Date: Mar 2, 1959-Apr 22, 1959

Release Date Nov 15, 1959-Mar 10, 1960

John Coltrane was on the KOB sessions and still found time to record this masterpiece.

Release Date Apr 1, 1959

Then in 1960 he had a marathon recording session which garnered three albums which were all released simultaneously!

Recording Date Oct 24, 1960-Oct 26, 1960

Recording Date Oct 24, 1960

Release Date Oct 24, 1960 Recording Date Oct 24, 1960,Oct 26, 1960

Plus

Release Date 1960 Recording Date Nov 24, 1959-Oct 21, 1956
(recorded in '56, but held until after Giant Steps was a hit)

Recorded Jun 28, 1960,Jul 8, 1960 released in 1966
Recorded with Ornete Coleman's sidemen, pointing to a new direction in jazz.

Hell, give Bowie 4 great albums in 1977:

Low, "Heroes", and Iggy Pop's "The Idiot" and "Lust For Life".

I always thought "Heroes" was released in (or maybe that would have just made more sense...one album per year).

It's so crazy to think of the way it used to be. Would it really hurt record companies if well known artists released more albums instead of taking at least 2 years in the cases of many established acts?

I know this is stretching it a bit cuz there are overlapping songs, but I think the 2 albums are distinct enough and awesome enough to include.
