Chrisette Michele

I just saw a video ("Best of Me") of this girl last week. What a unique sound! I'm thinking I like her voice -- has there been any discussion about her here?

A more mellow Macy Gray, kinda Jill Scott/Erykah Badu deal. Very nice. nod

A black Amy winehouse?... confused I would probably say - Jill Scott meets John Legend and there u have the lovely Chrisette Mitchelle, a voice so wonderful and mature that urban radio doesn't really promote or push her shit @ all...she's hot on the underground scene and she sells out whenever she's in town (DC) She does small venues and most people know her from word of mouth.

It seems like she will need a crossover record to really take off but I loving and appreciating her as an underground artist but I'm sure she wants to make some money eventually, lol. Def Jam seems committed to her; I just saw her perform on one of my fav. TV shows, Lincoln Heights.

*ahem* I was saying..
I really love that song. I think I will go an buy her album.
I have a thing for singers with "old-ish" sounding voices. (John Legend, Amy Winehouse.)
Maybe old is a bad choice of words but it reminds me of that 1950s-1960s lounge sound. I like it. I think that song will create a bigger buzz than her first single which was straight RnB.
I could see her back in the day with one of those old time Bossa Nova bands backing her.

I just cracked the album & I'm finding that I'm realling diggin' the stuff that's NOT R&B-ish, just the straight up singing/moody stuff is really nice smile

It's not even the crackheadity, it's that Amy is patterning herself off singers past (& one fairly recent, b/c I still hear Lauryn Hill in that child on lots of her songs) so to call anyone a Black version of Amy is lazy, dismissive & a bit redundant.

I'll say it again. Great voice, love that bluesy/soulful/jazzy style she has. Not so crazy about her music though.

Her album is very boring. I just could NOT get into the material -- nice voice though.

Ok, that's cool, but what kind of material do you want her to do? Remember, she has to establish an audience and a fan base. Right now, she appeals to an older/mature demographic. Do you want her to dumbdown the music?...or do more Pop ballad's or maybe try rock? I totally respect your opinion, I just want to know what type of music would u like to see her explore?

Good to see these reviews. I hadn't heard of her 'til I saw the video and that was just in passing.

Made me go get her CD right away, though! nod

NO WAY

She's more mellow, less risque, and more easy-listening IMO
If you will, so will I

That one song "Is that the way love is?" seems like it was produced by Prince.
