Most Rap music creates and promotes IGNORANCE, and Creates Racist views due to it's negative imagery and stereotypes!

I'm confused! Who is really buying this shit music. It would seem to me that real ghetto people would never buy CD's to begin with. If you were truly poor, wouldn't you just copy it from a friend. So are these bullshit rappers ( ex: li ying yang twins & Ying yang-like-rappers) really selling this many CD's to get this much airplay. I'm sorry but I know intelligent people aren't buying this stuff. I also know people in the suburbs really can't be buying this shit. You never hear rappers with positive message in their music on the radio any more. Rap in it's formative years never got this much airplay.

Rap music completely over shadowed R&B music all together. If you watch vh1 soul, they hardly play any Soul music anymore.

I often wonder if this is a conspiracy to show black people in a bad light. If you were to watch TV you would think all black people run around with grills in their mouth and speak in broken sentences.

I get tired of all these bullshit rap videos, Jerry Springer, All these fucking court shows, flavor of love, charm school, etc. Enough is Enough. All these show are Minstrel shows!!!!!

Please everybody quit keeping it Real " Ignorant"! We all need to boycott these TV & Radio stations that portray these negative stereotypes.

Rap music has totally hijacked the top 40 charts. The top 40 music charts hardly differs from the rap charts. How did this happen?

I really don't believe white kids are the ones keeping this music alive. I think it is a conspiracy. why wasn't it more popular when the music was better? Doesn't everybody agree oldschool rap is much better than this new stuff?

Yes of course. I hardly listen to rap these days and when I do, it's almost always old school. Rap music is dying out though. It's not as popular as it once was and it shows in the record sales.

When you see these terrible negative images of black people, you can understand why some people are racist. It's not right to be racist, but if those are the only images you see of black people, then one may form irrational opinions about a large group of individuals. It's already difficult to be black and to be judged as an individual. Not all black people listen to rap music and not all black people act like that, but you wouldn't know it watching tv. People often try to group all of us together.

It seems like there is a dumbing down of society as a whole but I am not oblivious to some of the very narrow and degrading depictions being repeatedly shown of certain groups.

I always knew it was all stereotypical, and it's gotten worse ever since viacom bought BET. I pulled out an old tape from the 90's full of BET videos, and it was mostly melodic, classy r&b and rap, but even the rap stuff was done in good taste. The video were actually entertaining with concepts in them, or had a creative element to them, think Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliot.

Actually I just had an interesting conversation with who mentioned how other forms music have all sorts of outlets to be heard but with hip hop, r&b, soul, etc...only one type of music seems to be pushed.

Try making your excellent point to the average white teens that are still buying C.R.A.P. music. They make up 70% of the album sales either way.

Well to take it even further, most of these sales are from dumb ass white girls/guys from the south part of the usa. Trust me, then this white girls come up here to NYC and take over the clubs trying to be what they think is "black" by using the word "gangsta" in their conversations.

Anything that supports buffoonary and coonary has been and still is being praised. Back in the day, there was Bojangles, Amos & Andy and the cotton club honys known as the "Tall, Tan & Terrific". Now you got Flava Flav, Ying Yang and the modern day Aunt Jemima AKA Monique and the honeys of 'I Love NY'/'Charm School'.

Here's the flip side though. Anything that supports black pride gets deemed as "racist" and "reclusive", anybody who represented black pride are shrewdly written off mainstream history, or get accused of being terrorists & bullies(Like Malcolm X, Huey P. Newton, Dr.Khalid Mohammed and the whole black panther movement).

I cannot even throw the whole blame on white people,,,,it seems that some of my beloved people are eating up ALL that bullshit with a guilt-free attitude, and when you confront them about it then "its not THAT deep!" untill the time comes when it will be deep,,,,up in their CHILDREN's asses when they grow up disbelief

I don't blame rap music,,,I blame those who promote it.

Yeah its the fault of many, but most of the blame must be placed on the "pusher" and those assisting the "pusher". Which kills me because when people like Oprah and Bill Cosby or Eric Dyson point this out they get people like Ludacris and 50Cent making them seem like they dont support "black" people.

I guess I've been involuntarily boycotting for years because I don't watch VH1 (or BET or MTV) or any of these shows.

I don't know who's watching them but someone is. So then when programming like this is proposed should people be surprised at the executive's response? I've heard negative complaints about these shows from the same people that don't miss an episode. I don't know what to think. People seem to love Flava Flav and whatever he does on his show but then call him a coon. If people don't like it or find it offensive why do they continue to watch/buy/support?

A boycott has been launched against music channel VH1 to protest network executives who actively and purposely perpetuate negative stereotypes of black women through its reality programming.

An employee of the network leaked information about a production meeting regarding a potential new show titled “Interracial Love.” According to the employee, network execs passed on the idea because it would feature professional black women who choose to look beyond race to find true love. The images would be in direct contrast to those shown on such shows as “Flavor of Love” and its spawns “I Love New York” and “Flavor of Love: Charm School.”

In a letter written to Black Press Radio, the employee shared what she was told went down behind closed doors in a meeting about the show. According to the employee, the exec said: “It is our thoughts that the viewers are more interested in seeing black people in a ghetto role. This show will not sell.”...

The scariest part about those Flavor shows and Charm School, they are all scripted, people actually believe they are reality shows when everyone by now I HOPE knows that ALL reality shows have been scripted from day one. And the point to that is that someone is actually writing ignorant ass things like that, but i do still blame anyone signing up for it and taking part in it.

i think if people are allowing music and music videos to structure their outlook or even further, their children's out look on other races, cultures, etc, then that's a fucking shame. if you're a racist, then you are just that. i agree that it doesn't help and definitely perpetuates a stereotype though. it's no surprise that all forms of media thrive off stereotypes.

what is just as frightening if not more is the music that no one really talks about. there are plenty of pro-nazi, anti-gay, etc bands. they may not be hitting top 40, but are definitely out there and have a hardcore audience. so it only becomes a problem when it's popular??

or people who add to the racism and negativity that don't live in a country where it may be prominant and say things like 'americans only listen to shit hop', 'black people this white people that'. things that used on this very site. but then again; that speaks for itself.

then there are the hypocrites who hate rap/hip hop, but turn around and use the slang in their everyday language. or will support rap even r&b from another colour face. just like every other type of music; there are positive, fun things and negative, derogatory things. it's up to you to chose what you buy into or promote around you.

honestly. the only time i really hear about how much RAP is taking over the charts or radio is when i log on here. LOL

and i agree with the closing statement about boycotting what you don't like. but also educate those around you about other options of music made by people of ALL colours.

I dont think its even that, i think it just puts this stereotype out there 24/7 of what black people are supposed to be and then you get dumb ass people thinking every black person is a rapper. Go wander into a club in NYC and see a bunch of white girls from the South dancing to garbage rap song thinking that talking "gangsta" all of a sudden makes them black. Thats the shit that makes me sick. And no thats not a racist thing but now the image to that person is that all black people are gangsta and listen to/or rap, and then of course that shit breeds and breeds. Stereotypes are almost as bad as racism.

It all comes down to money. That's why rap/minstrel music is so big now. People see those images and run with it so they can get their "point" across.

It was hilarious seeing Bill O'Reilly label Nas as a gangsta rapper lol
