nelly furtado might last a few records but i don't expect much more than that.

rihanna will be gone and forgoten in just a couple of years
fergie makes me vomit.
beyonce will be round for a long time.

yeah i ask that at times too. lol. i usually hear a song or two of hers in a club but forget about her later. she's quite popular apparently. i hear about her from co-workers and have caught a video or two here and there. some catagorize her as an Aailyah/Janet hybrid.

Funny thing about this question is some of them have been around for a decade already (Gwen, Beyonce, Fergie) or damn near (Furtado).

Out of all of them, Gwen Stefani is the only person I own music of and she is the only one I think will be around in 20 years. The others are jokes to me, including Bouncy and once her looks fade, the general public won't want to have anything to do with her..

yes. but i think they're also at the point where people will get tired of them or they could definitely solidify a place in music history..so to speak.

You have to remember that Gwen has already been around for about 20 years (which includes her years with No Doubt) and has been in the public consciousness for the last 11 years, and she is probably as popular as she has ever been. Beyonce has been around for nearly ten years and has already sold millions of albums, and I anticipate her being the younger generation's Tina Turner. Those artists are already considered to be accomplished veterans and will be around for years to come.

As for Nelly Furtado, she has been a darling of a lot of critics, but her chart success has been more modest compared to Beyonce, Gwen and Alicia Keys. She may be popular for another ten years; then again, she could fade away from the public spotlight but write hit songs for other people.

As for the others (Rihanna, Ciara, Fergie), I don't see them being around very long. The minute they fail to generate the next hit single from their next album, their record labels will dump them. What's sort of tragic about this (not necessarily about Rihanna or Ciara) is that artists like Mya and Christina Milian who actually have some talent are being horribly misused by their labels and getting dumped because the crappy songs they selected for them don't do well on the charts.

I think if she keeps teasing people with projects like Folklore and Loose, she could sustain quite the career for herself

You obviously haven't seen Beyonce live.

In my opinion -

I think Gwen will last even if it's through her fashion line or with No Doubt. I don't know how long the whole electro pop thing will work for her plus she's almost 40 and has a child.

Beyonce will last. She has the vocals and the talent, she just needs to drop the diva image and seem a little more warm towards people. She needs to drop her parents outta her career too and become an independent woman wink

Ciara and Rihanna will only last if they strengthen their vocals and Rihanna starts to have more imput in her songs and put some more life into her live performances. Ciara needs to work on her live voice too and drop the crunk thing.

Nelly should be around for a while, even if she never has commercial success like last year again. She had a big fanbase before Loose and she's always different. When Loose first came out, the sound was new. Of course it was copied to death immediately after but to me, Nelly made the Timbaland sound work first. She writes her own songs too which is always good.

In all, I think Beyonce will last the longest and Ciara the shortest.

As for Fergie Ferg, I didn't even remember her long enough to write about her falloff

Rihanna's longevity will depend on how much she will "europeanize" her sound (or how much she will be allowed to for that matter). I've heard her album and whilst it has definitive nods to a more properly electro and stylish direction it's not quite there. However, of that bunch she has managed to do with her latest record what the others haven't: gotten grown-up european music fans enough interested to buy her record. But if the overall sound isn't more thoroughly tilted to that specific direction her career will be over sooner than you can say "Jay-Z".

I haven't bought anything from any of these ladies and I know I won't.

I do like Gwen's music with No Dobut, but her solo stuff is awful.

Fergie's music is pure trash and I can't stand Ciara either.
