JOHNNIE TAYLOR

Does anybody here like his music? My father and his friends say that he is the "Philosopher Of Southern Soul". I also found out years ago that he was one of the members of The Soul Stirrers. I love all his songs so I really don't have an favorite. smile

Johnnie was a bad-ass man. nod

Some of my faves include:
"Who's Making Love"
"I've Got to Love Somebody's Baby"
"Jody's Got Your Girl and Gone"
"Love Bones"
"Cheaper to Keep Her"
"Stop Doggin' Me Around"

...just to name a few. I even dig his later tunes like "Slide" (the infamous one when he sings "all the ladies...pop that coochie!" and "Soul Heaven".

RIP! dove

Johnnie Taylor was a BAD MAN.

I enjoyed lots of his lesser known stuff too. He was a Sam Cooke discovery & you can hear Sam's influence in his singing style. He was a smokier version of Sam Cooke with just as much charisma.

Ain't it? lol But then again most modern blues joints had funny-ass lyrics! You should check the lyrics of music from the likes of Lattimore and Marvin Sease! falloff

i just recently picked up "Eargasm" remastered.

that's the album that has "Disco Lady" on it.

music. having a remastered album makes all the difference...there's subtle nuances i can hear that i couldn't before.

cool Don't forget after hour joint, and Soul Heaven.,Soul heaven has to be my most favorite Johnnie Taylor, because he names all the artists that passed on before him, and how they're throwing this soul concert in heaven, it almost makes you wanna close your eyes and envision the partying in heaven, and would it be like that we finally make it there.
