The Chitlin' Circuit of Theatre's?

Has anyone ever attended a show at a theatre during the 50's and 60's in the Rock N' Roll and Soul era? I'm not just talking about any theatre though, I'm talking about the "Chitlin' Circuit" Theatre's.

The 5 main theatr's during those days were the Royal in Baltimore, the Uptown in Philadelphia, the Howard in Washington, DC, the Regal in Chicago and of course, the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York. As ablack performer during those segregated days of the 50's and 60's that's where you wanna be.

Everyone who was somebady (and at that point wasn't anyone) performed at those theatre's. James Brown recorded albums at both the Apollo and the Royal Theatre's. The Jackson 5 never performed at these Theatre's when they were signed to Motown but that where they bettered their chops at. They actually won ameture night at four of the 5 Theatre's I named.

The Temptations, Chuck Berry, ect all performed their. Joe Tex and Jimi Hendrix won 1st place at the Apollo. The Dramatic, O'Jays, Ohio Players and the Parliaments (pre-famous and before the hits started coming in) all performed at the theatre's.

For those unfamiliar with the Chitlin Circuit, watch the Five Hearbeats. The fictinal R&B group perform at 5 of the 4 theatre's I named.

- The Apollo Thearte: The win Amature Night defeating Bird and the Midnight Falcons
- The Howard Theatre: They perfom "Nights Like This" when Duck and JT get in a fight
- The Regal Theatre: They perform for the second time "Nights Like This"
- Uptown Theater: Flash & the Ebony Sparks are seen performing "Down for the Count"

I just got a copy of The Brides Of Funkenstein Live At Howard Theatre today... that's about as close as I'll ever get lol
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

I have been to the Apollo, however it was not during the 50's or 60's....amazingly I am not old enough lol

The only person I can think of who possibly could have would be tA...he and I are around the same age, however he is from NY and would have had an opportunity as a child/early teen if his parents took him.

cool
