No offence to his fans, but this man was an abuser of women - big time. Even though he released some very funky music in his time I can't get over the fact that he was so sexually abusive. I know we have to focus on his music, but whenever I hear is stuff, I can't help but think of the sexual abuse and that instantly turns me off.

All of them are, ALL of them.

From Marvin Gaye to Al Green, from Ike Turner to John Lennon, from Miles Davis to Rick James.

Not condoning them by any means,,,,but singling out Rick is insane.

In 1991, he and future wife Tanya Hijazi were accused of holding 24-year old Frances Alley hostage for up to six days (accounts vary on how long she was actually held), tying her up, forcing her to perform sexual acts, and burning her legs and abdomen with a hot crack pipe during a week long cocaine binge.

Michael Jackson is barely mentioned. The Jacksons are not mentioned at all. However, Rick dogs Prince every times he gets the chance. falloff It's obvious that he viewed Prince as competition and not Mike. The book does contain a photo of Rick with Marlon and Jackie Jackson though.

I think Rick was homeboys with the Jacksons since I guess they hang out in Cali plus Jermaine was still in Motown by the time Rick came back to the label to be an artist. He gave Mike a lot of respect during his final years, I believe.

Yeah, I remember Rick was on CNN of all places blasting the media about their portrayal of MJ during the child molest allegations. Rick clearly had MJ's back. And you know how crazy he is. He was saying whatever the hell he wanted on CNN. falloff I was cracking up. He gave that newscaster a run for her money.

In his 'Anthology' liner notes, he said that gave Quincy Jones the premission to used the bass-line for 'Thriller'(which is actualy from 'Give It To Me Baby').

I think Louis Jordan played the bass for 'Thriller'.

Yes I'm aware of that,,,,and like I said, I wasn't condoning him,,,but all of them without comparision are fuck-ups.

The ever-so-worshiped Sly Stone, literally aborted his ex-wife with a wire hanger, James Brown kicked Marva Whitney in the stomach and threatened her with a gun if she ever thought of walking out on him, Ike was the only one of them who got exposed becoz of the movie.

MJ and Rick were friends. I always thought it was cool that he didn't abandon MJ like many others did.

As far as his relationship with P is concerned, Prince definitely did borrow a lot of ideas and style from Rick without giving credit, but he is certainly not the first artist to leave out speaking on their influences. The media built their rivalry up even more. I'm sure Rick's drug use didn't help matters. But his main reason for despising Prince is certainly related to P stealing Vanity. That's really all the reason he needs. Shit, I'd definitely hate Prince if I had been in Rick's position. Rick was used to getting every woman he wanted. Then Prince (a virtual newcomer at the time) comes along and steals a woman from one of the biggest names in music. Yeah, that shit would be hard to stomach.

Rick was a complex person. Not to condone his own personal responsibility, but drugs really took their toll on him. He saw a level of fame that few get to see. I doubt many people could have resisted all the shit that was thrown his way. We all have our vices. Unfortunately, he gave into every one of his. I'm sure he'd want people to learn from some of his mistakes.

After reading the book, what's amazing to me is, after all the shit that he did, he lived to be in his 50's. I would have thought he would have died sooner.

falloff falloff :falloff:Okay, I'm definitely going to get that book somehow. The outtakes that you all are posting on her are too funny, But this one takes the cake. That and Teena Marie coming like the falling rain falloff falloff

Yeah I knew they were friends, and Rick was very vocal about defending Mike during his legal woes. But this raises another point, Michael was another who borrowed alot from Rick (if you don't believe me, listen to 'Come Into My Life' & 'Give It To Me Baby'; then listen to 'Thriller') and they remained friends. So I don't think Rick hated Prince solely because he borrowed from his style. I think there was just a lot of ego mixed up in there, and the Vanity thing didn't exactly help matters any.

One of the funniest/disgusting things that he talks about is his little poodle that would climb into bed with him and help him "pleasure" the girls if you know what I mean....."After the girls realized what was happening, they loved it because the dog was the best at giving head." I was like WTF????? Rick was a true Superfreak. lol
