did sheena easton deserve an album produced by prince, la & babyface and angela winbush? "The Lover in Me" album is great...but..just wondering if some of these great songs would have been much better off with stephanie mills or some other artist with a more vocal power. stephanie's "Home" cd, which featured quite a few winbush songs, is classic. so how did MCA secure such a hot list of producers for sheena?

Sheena Easton's voice was quite capable and she proved herself time and time again as being one of pop's most versatile singers. Sheena Easton definately had commercial pop appeal and had just signed a multi-album record contract with MCA Records in 1988. By then Sheena had earned herself a lofty niche as an international pop star and with the support of top-notch MCA A&R, Louil Silas Jr., it was easy to attract the best in the biz to a new Sheena Easton project.

When I first heard the full "Lover In me" album I was underwhelmed after loving the title track for so many years...but you know what? It works well! It's a strong R&B/pop album with different types of music and a strong performance by Sheena. Was her last release that disco album "Fabulous" about seven years ago? What happened to her?

Sheena was very underrated as a vocalist, she really could sing well, i think her looks made it seem like "she cant sing and be pretty". It was tough though because she wasnt a songwriter, i think of her as the Whitney Houston of the early 80s. But i think Sheena was one of the best in the Pop field for women in that time period, along with Laura Branigan (RIP) "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Doesn't she have a Grammy in the 4 major sections? Pop, Country, Rock and R/B?
She was a Grammy Darling back in the early 80's. I remember the shock of the music community when she teamed up with Prince and started sporting that rat tail hairdo. People were thinking that Prince had ruined her career. [Edited 8/26/07 18:25pm] The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

[Edited 8/26/07 18:25pm] I dont know if she had a grammy in all those categories, but i do know that she topped the charts in POP,RB,Country and Dance. Let me check on the Grammies she got..... From what i can see she has won in the country and POP category, dance didnt have a category in those days of the grammies, but she also won in the LATIN field a duet with Luis Miguel, so Beyonce better not say she was the first to win a latin grammy. But Sheena has topped the Country,Pop,RB,Dance,Latin and Adult Contemporary charts. 'The Lover In Me' is Sheena's best album, imo.Every song is superb. My favorites are "No Deposit,No Return","One Love",the two Prince tracks "101" and "Cool Love" and of course, the title track.
"One Love" is so infectious and fun,I don't know why it wasn't released as a single It's a perfect LaFace production....insanely catchy with a strong, memorable hook.

I think Prince reinvigorated her career. The sexy, outrageous "Sugar Walls" took her in a whole new direction and exposed her to a dance/R&B audience. It's kinda like the end of "Grease" when Sandy (played by Olivia Newton John) puts on that tight black outfit and shocks everyone with her sexy new image Sheena needed to go through that transformation.'The Lover In Me' puts her earlier albums to shame.
