Ray Charles came years before Elvis, Elvis wasn't even on Marvin's mind, Kool & the Gang were influenced by the JB's, nothing about them was Elvis-esque at all. Same with Prince - he's more influenced by Little Richard than Elvis. The only influence I can see fitting Elvis are Billy Joel, David Bowie & Cher. Dwight Yoakam and Garth Brooks were also influenced by Elvis, I think. shrug

Also I would consider Pat Boone a "rival" to Elvis too since both of them sung R&B music but in different styles.

I agree with you. I really don't see how he influence Kool and The Gangs of all people, I think this is the most obscure.

As for Prince he is more influence by Rick James, Little richard and JB.

Michael Jackson practically dismissed Elvis as an influence in his biography. It was all about JB, with a touch of Stevie wonder, Diana Ross and Fred Astaire for him.

And as for Marvin Gaye he initially wanted to be a black version of Sinitra.

Prince has said he was majorly influenced by Stevie. And I'd already written RJ, LR, and JB as influences.

Rick James is more of a Prince rival too and also they came around the same time but at the same time he IS an influence to Prince.
