Man, whatever happened to my beloved soul music? Who killed it? When, where and why? This geriatric sounding stuff is not real soul. It's more like the punch drunk, zombified remnants of soul. That goes for the ENTIRE neo soul genre. Yes, that includes the vastly overrated Indie Arie, the queen of all things fake Alicia Keys, and that bank manager passing for a pop star John Legend. Some artists come alive when they're making music. These ones fall into temporary comas whenever it's time to sing, taking anyone who's not quick enough to hit the door with them.

This cat appears on N'dambi's Japan release A Weird Kind of Wonderful.
He sounds like Darien Brockington to me.

These modern day Perry Comos aren't helping matters with their draggy, boring music. The sad thing is there are youngsters growing up who will probably come to think of soul music as something lifeless when, in it's true form, it's exactly the opposite of that. Tunes like Marvin's "Let's Get It On", Aretha's "Rock Steady", or Sam Cooke's "Good Times" had more life in them than anything most kids will hear. Neo Soul is tarnishing the good name of my baby. They need to find a more honest name for it, like Elevator Music For Black People.
