I like that one too! I taped that in December of 2001 when it first aired on VH1. I'll have to watch this tonight.

It's actually a documentary about Pac's tribes and tribulations. It is one of the best docs I've ever seen. If you haven't seen it, rent it because it is interesting about how he really lived and what he thought about when he was making his music and writing his poetry.

You all remember this one:

A love drama-type biopic about Frankie Lymon. A great movie and Larenz Tate at his peak.

-Also the Buddy Holly Story (1978)

Also, would I'm Bout It count, it's more about Master P's life in the hoop then his recording career.

I never knew that! Was it really a story about the Dells? I always thought it was just a dramatization about the rise and falls of black singing groups of the 60's and 70's.

It is. Not every facet of the movie was about the Dells except the fact the Dells had been "singing together since high school", that there were originally SIX members of the group and it shortened to five (hence the name "The Five Heartbeats") even though I think Eddie was a roadie or something and Bobby was an original member.

But it was a combination of the stories of:

The Temptations (Eddie's drug and alcohol abuse, Flash replacing Eddie as lead singer)

The Isley Brothers (in one scene, the Five Heartbeats are shocked to discover that the cover of their single was of a white couple romancing in the beach rather than the five black members of the group; the Isleys had a similar fate with their "This Old Heart of Mine" album)
Jackie Wilson ("Bird" is dangled from a balcony; Jackie was really dangled from a balcony by his manager)

Maybe one of the Dells' managers got killed and maybe the Dells were fucked around at the Apollo initially but it was a combination of a lot of R&B/soul groups back then really.

I watch that and I thought it was loosley based on the story of the Temptations until I actually watch the film about Temptations. The sad thing about The Temptations is for the exception of one of them none of the original Temptations are alive. And they all died relatively young, none of them seem to reach the age of 60 except for the one that is still alive.

Did anybody mention Lady Sings The Blues (although I know that movie took a lot of liberties when it came to accuracy om her life).

Seconded. A great movie, as long as you take the historical accuracy with a pinch of salt.

Others - 'This is Elvis' - Elvis biopic. Hardly subtle, so like its subject in some ways then wink, but not half bad. It helps that the real EP appears in all the concert footage, so it works as an ok documentary more than anything.

'The Beach Boys - An American Band' - God that mini-series was bad. biggrin
