Anybody Ever Heard Of This Artist Named "Seven"? I was poking around CD Baby the other day and came across his CD called "Home" and I was blown away! Forget Robin Thicke, this dude takes it to a whole nother level. He has songs with Tamar (Yes, THAT Tamar!) and Conya Doss, has production from Rahsaan Patterson and Keith Crouch, as well as James Poyser (big time indie soul producer in Philly) and Commisioner Gordon (Leela James). He also has Sheila E. and Eric Leeds on there. It's like Synth-Funk and it works TREMENDOUSLY! here's the link for those interested in his sound. Especially check out the song "Home" because it sounds a lot like Thicke's "Lost W/O You". http://cdbaby.com/cd/nationmusic nWo: bboy87 - Timmy84 - LittleBlueCorvette - MuthaFunka - phunkdaddy - Christopher

It's Interesting now that you marvel mediocre vocals that's a first. This can't be the same MuthaFunka, somethings up with the account (possible hijack) . I'll hit you up possible later off the org. This is a well done record; let me say that first to make myself clear.
What is it lately with these white artists making better Prince(ish) records than Prince [Justin Timberlake, Jamie Lidell, Muse (Supermassive Black Hole), Maroon 5, etc.]? WTF, Prince? What gives? Dude wears his influences on his sleeve, though. I hear, Prince, Stevie Wonder, George Michael, Justin Timberlake, Maxwell, Funkadelic, Robin Thicke, Michael Jackson, Jon B., Rhythm Syndicate (who remembers them?), Janet, even his one of his producers - Rahsaan Patterson (he straight up stole a couple of vocal riffs). Unlike JT, who drew from Prince for a vibe, his work seems more derivative. Seems like he would tour with Julian's Ride. His songs are just okay lyrically. A lot of songs sound like: remove (insert famous person's name here) vocals and insert his. Still, its a good record. I love Conya Doss but not on this record. She's a great vocalist and her contributions on here seemed minimal. Too bad. I think using former Prince band members (a Justin Timberfake move) and calling himself Seven (come on, dude) obviously displays Prince's influence on him. I'm not sure why he named his CD "Home" when Sevendust also has a CD called "Home"; maybe someone thought they might get a few accidental sales? Despite all of that, he's got a better record than a lot of the American artists that top the charts right now. I wish him the best. | |
