According to the YouTube page, the event was held for her 65th B-Day. So, since she was born in 1932, I am guessing this was in 1997. Hope this helps. biggrin

Welcome to Hollywood
That's what they told you
A child star in Hollywood
That's what they sold you
Grace with beauty, charm and talent
You would do what you were told
But they robbed you of childhood
Took your youth and sold it for gold

Elizabeth, I love you
You're every star that shines in the world to me
Elizabeth can't you see that it's true
Elizabeth, I love you
You're more than just a star to me

Lovely Elizabeth
You have surpassed them all
My friend Elizabeth
Learned to outlast them all
Many started back when you did
Lost their way and now they're gone
But look at you, a true survivor
Full of life and carrying on

This is your life
You seem to have it all
You reached your peak
They wanted you to fall
It's very sad, this world can be so bad
But though all the heartaches
When they put you down
You know you were the victor
And you earned the crown
It's like walking through the fire
Determined to win
You were beating life's battles
Again and again

Elizabeth, I love you
You're every star that shines in the world to me
Elizabeth can't you see that it's true

Remember the time I was alone
You stood by my side and said:
"Let's be strong"
You did all these things
That only a true friend can do

Elizabeth, I love you
The world knows your work now
Of all the things on Earth now
I pray one day I'll be just like... you.

This is a difficult one to tell whether its live or lip synced!

sounds like it was live in parts with ad libs as live, but the performance was at least a live 'recording'

fantastic song and stunning performance, think i remember madonna jumping up to applaud him at the time!

This song and performance remind me of his tribute to Sammy Davis, Jr. (I think) sometime in the '80s. I believe it is available to watch on YouTube.

I love the performance and the song. I wish someone (Mike) wrote something like that for me. wink

You're right, it is '97. I have a tape of Stern goofing on this event, specifically this song and all the cats telling Liz how beautiful she looked. smile

Both MJ and Elizabeth have both spoken of the paralellism of their lives, which is why they said they became such close friends.
I tell ya, some of you are sure desperate for Mike not to be able to sing anymore, lol. You need to ask yourself - why?

MJ has stage presence like none other. It's hard to explain, but that one simple performance was filled with such feeling and expression. He's just amazing to me.

That wig/weave was atrocious... lol The song was okay, I guess... nice gesture for Mike to pay a tribute to a friend.
