Hehehe, it's so silly you always know how to work me up on the threads, while I like you so much anywhere else. wink

You know, it is like you cannot have a thread on Tori without SOME people posting Kate Bush pics (and vice versa). It was fun in 2001, ya know? But stuff just gets old.

And yeah, I know, there's this thing called humour, but some topics touch me more profoundly than others.

ANY thread on Rahsaan Patterson is ACE, in my eyes, as I think the man does not get enough attention or props for his work. In this respect I agree with BlaqueKnight; people just focus on the worng things. To me it never mattered who is singing a lovesong or who they address it to.

He has one of the best voices in the industry and I think black folks lack of support for him is directly due to his sexuality and our community's discrimination against it. I hate to say that but I think its true. His vocals are top notch.

I don't think I agree with that. There are several black artist whom Blacks don't support who are not gay. Frank McComb, Eric Roberson, and others are in the same boat. It's more a matter of being exposed to the music.

Rahsaan is a bad dude regardless of his private life. More people just need to know about him.

Start at the beginning, most often the best way. If you have heard his stuff before and like it, than go for the first one.

Rahsaan's self-titled debut is him trying out the style he put in other people's songs, like Stop By, So Fine, Come OVer, Can't We Wait.

His second album In Stereo is even better. It's more balanced and has a better flow.

My favourite is After Hours, though; here his songwriting just reaches that great high where everything jsut seems right. Almost the entire album has a fixed place on my iPod. It translates best into D.M.S.R.
Utter faves are The Best and I Always Find Myself. And So Hot and Burnin'.

I think it's a combination of the two. I don't believe Luther Vandross' career would have been the same if he was openly gay. He knew this. And that well known Black Rapper/Actress with the trainer/girlfriend that most of us all know is gay also realizes this, though I think she would be ok considering the Black community's support is no longer her backbone.

Rahsaan is still unfortunately relatively unknown but I think it's a little bit unrealistic to believe his sexuality is not a factor, with regard to the black community, in his not being as popular as he should be.
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

I definitely see your point but none of those artists mentioned had a shot on Oprah like RP did and after that appearance his popularity waned greatly, and a lot of people said it was due to his 'flamboyant vibe' he gave off.

But I agree with you on a whole that the Indie Soul scene gets very little support overall.

definitely start with his debut self-titled CD. It's off the chain! Then After Hours, and then his 2nd release Love in Stereo.

I think you are probably right what a dumb reason not to like the music.
