hmmm

Is this the one with like 97 guest vocalists?

Yeah- it appears to be an edit though. "Dark Road" is much better. Check it out on her myspace!

Annie's much anticipated album Songs of Mass Destruction is being preceded by the single "Dark Road", which is now available to stream from the BBC2 Radio show! Follow this link and fast foward to about 11:38 on the timer. Edit: Or this higher quality stream!

In an word, sublime! It's a plaintive ballad beginning with an alluring piano melody that gradually builds up steam. It really picks up in the second to last verse before returning to the tempered mood. Her voice is fantastic, as always.

Here are the lyrics:

"Dark Road"

It's a dark road
And a dark way that leads to my house
And the word says
That you're never gonna find me there, oh no
I've got an open door
It didn't get there by itself
It didn't get there by itself...

There's a feelin'
But you're not feelin' it at all
There's a meaning
But you're not listening anymore
I look at that open road
I'm gonna walk there by myself...

And if you catch me I might try to run away
You know I can't be there too long
And if you let me I might try to make you stay
Seems you never realize a good thing til it's gone...

Maybe I'm still searchin' but I don't know what it means
All the fires of destruction are still burnin' in my dreams
There's no water that can wash away this longin' to come clean...
Hey yea yea...

I can't find the joy within my soul
It's just sadness takin' hold
I wanna come in from the cold
And make myself renewed again
It takes strength to live this way
The same old madness every day
I wanna kick these blues away
I wanna learn to live again

Hey hey hey

It's a dark road
And a dark way that leads to my house
And the word says
That you're never gonna find me there, oh no
I've got an open door
It didn't get there by itself
It didn't get there by itself...

Don't really get all the hate for Sing. I mean, Madge sounds like ass on toast next to Annie, and it's got that "this is going to inspire you" overload, but it's pretty catchy.

If anything, these 2 songs are sounding more Eurythmics-y to me, which I think is a good thing

It's cheesy, but not offensive.

It'll be a single. Annie's humanitarian causes are really important to her, and she'll release it to raise awareness. Plus, it already has a lot of notoriety.

Me too! Honestly, I think the idea is a lot more sound than the execution based on that clip. I envisioned the song starting out at a hush with just Annie, and then the chorus of female guests growing more and more.

Yes, I do not particularly like the Clive Davis kind of schmuck. I never much like ensemble songs. The only one I kind of like is Do They Know It's Christmas by Band Aid.

I hear what you're saying, but Clive Davis goes nuts over all-star collaborations.Look what he did to Santana's career, lol. All he sees is dollar signs. He's probably thinking....

Madonna fans would be interested in this song....maybe we could do a dance remix by Stuart Price? hmmm

Gladys Knight is on this song....maybe I could send a copy to R&B stations and reach that audience too? hmmm

Shakira appears on this song....let's do a Latin mix by Wyclef and promote it to Latin radio stations hmmm

lol it's easy to see how his mind works!

As soon as he starts doing that with artists that CLICK, for the music, not for the sale, then he can try again.

Mmm, let's send Prince to Björk's house and lock them in a room with a drum computer and a guitar.
