The only George Benson albums I have in my collection is Breezin', which is utterly a CLASSIC!, The Greatest Hits of All compilation, which is pretty good, and Instrumentals.
Check me out and add me on:

I heard the song "On Broadway", and i loved his voice, so i`m interested in the albums with vocals. I`m not familiar with his music, but it seems like much of it is instumentals hmmm

"Give Me The Night" produced by Q is a great album. For "Moody's Mood" alone it is great.

That`s the one with Patti Austin, right?

Breezin' is a very good album. Essential songs of the 70's!

I'd also recommend his live album.

I think so. She has done quite a few duets with male artists, she is Q's God daughter so through him she has managed to get on quite a few albums that he has produced.

Breezin' is a good start.

The Greatest Hits of All is good if you like his vocals.

You can't go wrong with any of these. If you want a "greatest hits" package, I suggest either the "George Benson Collection" or "The Greatest Hits of All". If you want to start with an album, I would suggest "Breezin", "Give Me The Night", or even "Love Remembers" for an album.

All of the above for sure. The only one missing is 'Weekend in LA,' which was the album that his infamous cover of 'On Broadway' originally featured. I think everything he recorded for Warner is top notch - get the greatest hits of all for a really good overview.

In Your Eyes and 20/20 are really underrated as far as the studio albums go.

I get so pissed off when I hear those albums,,,,,because everytime I see how BAD he was, I remember for a split second that he only became part of the "smooth jazz" scam nowadays.

What a waste of old age's energy disbelief

Well, those albums have a nostalgic quality to them. I grew up listening to many of those songs. Sure, I know where this type of music "led," but I still remember them fondly.

Although there's good material in that group, for some reason I have a self imposed obligation to include some Benson before Breezin selections in these threads just for the sake of perspective.

Absolutely. His legacy has to be placed in its fullest perspective.

It's kind of like what my father said about another guitar great, Wes Montgomery. He made his music, and he made a living.

I do sometimes forget about Benson's prior work because I was introduced to him through Breezin'. I was just a kid and that album resonated with me more than any work I discovered later. That album along with some Earl Klugh, Donald Byrd and Herbie Hancock were my first memorable introductions to Jazz.

For me, it was George Benson, Wes Montgomery, Stan Getz and Hubert Laws.

Then my grandfather introduced me to the Duke and Bird, and it was true love.
