New Order at war after 'break-up'

Former New Order bassist Peter Hook has threatened to sue his ex-bandmates after they decided to keep the group going without him.

Writing on MySpace, Hook said: "This group has split up. You are no more New Order than I am... see you in court."

Hook said in May the band had broken up. But Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris recently said the group had not split and they would carry on.

New Order released their last album, Waiting For The Sirens' Call, in 2005.

Writing his blog, Hook said: "You may have two thirds, but don't assume you have the rights to do anything New Ordery 'cos you don't. I've still got a third!"

Just in case you hadn't noticed, we've not had a personal relationship for a long time now

"But [I] am open to negotiation," he added.

Sumner and Morris, who announced their decision to continue as New Order last week, said Hook had not approached them personally about the decision to end the band.

Hook replied: "Just in case you hadn't noticed, we've not had a personal relationship for a long time now... years in fact!

"Whenever you contact me, it's through the management. I did exactly the same. You all knew what was happening re the split in February."

Sumner and Morris have declined to comment on the development.

New Order, known for their hits including Blue Monday and Regret, were formed by the members of Joy Division after the suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis in 1980.

They can carry on, but it won't be New order without Hook's trademark bass. He's being churlish about the use of the name though. Reminds me of Roger Waters' spat with the rest of Pink Floyd, when he left in the eighties.

Hook does seem like the real tool in this situation. Did Sumner write most of the songs?

they should just give it up, crank out some pretty re-issues with liner notes and bonus crap, and call it a day. back away from the legacy with some dignity, sheesh.

I love New Order but they haven't released a great album since Technique in 1989.

There last couple were OK.

yeah, all their stuff is very listenable, but the last couple haven't exactly been "classic" status. i guess "crystal" is a pretty cool song.

This sounds like the Pink Floyd/Roger Waters split...

nod True. This is probably due to all the disharmony going on among the members.

What did you think of Republic? I gotta admit that I totally slept on it for years. Its become one of my faves. Puts me in a really good space when I play it. Personally, Id rank it up there with Low- Life or Brotherhood.

never had an album called 'repubic'edit.

Republic is OK

I love Regret and Word And Ruined in A Day are very good also. It's been a couple of years since I listened to the whole album.

I'll give it another spin soon I think.
