Problem with D' is that even if he had an album already finished he could not release it until he gets back in the physical shape he once was.Simply because he *always* was marketed not only through his music but his looks equally, like it or not.
So if he would release an album now while being kinda overweighted i don't think it would be a good idea.Sad but true and the backside of when marketing relies not only on the music but looks as well. [Edited 7/18/07 22:03pm] | |

 WTF? That isn't true at all. His looks factored very little into the marketing behind Brown Sugar -- it was overwhelmingly about his sound. He didn't become some kind of huge sex symbol until the video of "Untitled (How Does It Feel)." Had he ever been in public shirtless before "Left and Right"? Seriously, I don't get all the hype... what the hell is so damn special about this guy? I own a copy of Voodoo and there's like maybe 3 good songs on the album, rest is just crap. This guy has been around for 12 years and released two albums.... TWO (2)... He can release his next album 50 years from now for all I care, but y'all should stop acting like he's some damn Music Messiah. If it always takes like seven years for him to complete an album, and even then, it's only mediocre at best, I think that says a whole lot about his so called 'talent'. I thought this was something new like a new arrest. This is old charges from nearly 2 years ago. so who is to say what he looks like at this time. Has anyone seen him around Richmond? I REALLY LOVE HIS MUSIC.He may not be very productive. But vocally alone he's one of the most if not THE most skilled cat in r&b (with the exception of Maxwell who is also is MIA) There was no so called neo-soul prior to D'angelo's Brown Sugar. It sorta started it all.
I hope this guy gets his self together and releases something. At this rate I don't care if it's not that good. Just something new. | |
