Crowded House didn't even make the top 50. Of course, that's almost impossible when Wal-Mart isn't stocking it. sad

lol

Wait a minute! The song "Silent House" was co-written with the Dixie Chicks and a version is on both albums! Maybe you're on to something... Then again, I remember seeing a Dixie Chicks album while I was looking.

I guess they just aren't big enough in the U.S. anymore. neutral At least it makes it easier to get concert tickets.

Well im sure if u go into a WalMart or a Best Buy and ask "do u have the new Crowded House cd" they will be like "who?" "whats a crowded house", this is why music retail is dead!! oh well at least here in NYC you still got the the local Little stores still alive supporting artists that have careers and still record/

There's a little something for everyone this week in the top half of The Billboard 200. While T.I. continues to reign atop The Billboard 200 for a second week, the Smashing Pumpkins return with their first studio album in more than seven years at No. 2 ... Meanwhile, newly minted pop princess Miley Cyrus and her alter ego "Hannah Montana" fall one spot to No. 3 ... Former indie act Interpol debuts at No. 4 while still-indie Spoon serves up a No. 10 debut. Pop duo Aly & AJ and the star-studded "Hairspray" soundtrack start in the top 20 ... Punk icon Bad Religion scores its highest-charting album, the reunited Crowded House returns and Against Me! makes a splash ... We've also got updates on a new record set by Fergie, Rihanna's dance club success, Robbie Williams' and Madonna's successful pairing, AFI's new side project and Michael Buble's surprisingly fast-rising single on the Adult Contemporary chart.

FLASH POINTS

• While T.I. holds tight at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 with his "T.I. Vs. T.I.P.," two new entries bow in the top five. The Smashing Pumpkins return with their first studio album in more than seven years as "Zeitgeist" bows at No. 2 with 145,000. It's the band's first album with Reprise after having spent its major-label life on Virgin. The Pumpkins' last studio set, 2000's "Machina/The Machines of God," debuted and peaked at No. 3 with sales of 165,000. However, the album slipped off the chart after only 13 weeks and has since only sold a total of 592,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The band's best debut sales week came when 1995's "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" bowed at No. 1 with 246,000. The double-album later hit a career high of 321,000 during that year's Christmas week ... The new album's first single, "Tarantula," peaked at No. 2 on the Alternative/Modern Rock radio chart, giving the act a record 17th consecutive top 10 hit on that list. Green Day is in second place with 10 straight top 10s.

• Talk about continued improvement. Interpol first debuted on The Billboard 200 in 2002 with "Turn On the Bright Lights" at No. 187. The album would eventually peak at No. 158 and spend a scant five weeks on the chart. It did, however, spend a lengthy 73 weeks on the Top Independent Albums chart and has since sold a handsome 464,000 in the United States. The group's follow-up, 2004's "Antics," debuted on The Billboard 200 at No. 15, selling 63,000 in its first week. It has gone on to sell 459,000. Now, this week, the band's new album, "Our Love to Admire," begins at No. 4, shifting 73,000. The set, released through Capitol, is its first for a major label, after having spent its career on indie Matador ... Interpol played "Late Show With David Letterman" July 10, and its U.S. tour begins July 19 in Rochester, N.Y.

• Spoon scoops up a No. 10 debut on The Billboard 200 with "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga" selling 46,000 in its first week. It's the band's sixth full-length effort, but only its second to chart, following 2005's "Gimme Fiction." That set peaked at No. 44 when it debuted with 20,000. The band also scores its second No. 1 on the Top Independent Albums chart with "Ga," as "Gimme" also debuted at No. 1 on that list in 2005. The band's Billboard chart history dates back to March 10, 2001, when "Girls Can Tell" bowed on the Independent Albums chart ... Aly & AJ enter at No. 15 with "Insomniatic" shifting 39,000. The duo has charted twice before, first with the studio set "Into the Rush" (No. 36 in 2005) and the holiday effort "Acoustic Hearts of Winter" (No. 78 in 2006).

• The soundtrack from the new film "Hairspray" bows at No. 20 on The Billboard 200 with 37,000. The set boasts musical veterans John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Zac Efron and Queen Latifah. Travolta and Pfeiffer, the respective stars of "Grease" and its ill-fated sequel "Grease 2," duet on the album's "Big, Blonde and Beautiful." The movie opens July 20 ... Bad Religion's 14th album, "New Maps of Hell," debuts at No. 35 on The Billboard 200, instantly becoming the band's highest-charting album. However, the set sold 21,000 in its first week -- down from the 27,000 that greeted "The Empire Strikes First" in 2004 ... The soundtrack from "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" debuts at No. 43, marking a new chart high for the series. The previous four installments peaked at Nos. 48, 81, 61 and 80, respectively ... A reunited Crowded House returns to The Billboard 200, debuting at No. 46 with "Time on Earth" (16,000). It's the first time the band has reached the chart since 1994's "Together Alone" peaked at No. 73 ... Against Me! makes the shift from indie Fat Wreck Chords to Reprise as its "New Wave" album bows at No. 57 with a career-high 12,000. The act's previous best sales week came when "Searching for a Former Clarity" bowed at No. 114 with 8,000 in 2005.

MARKET WATCH

• Album units, current chart week: 8.3 million units
• DOWN 4.89% from last issue's charts: 8.73 million units
• DOWN 10.8% from same week, 2006: 9.3 million units
• This week: The top three albums sell more than 100,000 copies.
• This week last year on The Billboard 200: the "Now 22" various-artists compilation bowed in the penthouse with 398,000, forcing Thom Yorke's "Eraser" to a No. 2 debut with 90,000. Rapper Pimp C's "Pimpalation" started in the No. 3 slot with 87,000. Muse's "Black Holes and Revelations" was the final debut in the top 10, at No. 9, with 48,000. Only the No. 1 album sold more than 100,000 units.

BORDERLINES

• The No. 100 album this week, Brandi Carlile's "The Story" (Columbia/Sony Music), sold 56,000.
• The No. 100 album for the same week of 2006, Phil Vassar's "Greatest Hits Volume 1" (Arista Nashville), sold 9,000.
• Average total of the No. 100 album for the same week of the year during the past 10 years (1998-2007): 11,960.

A LOOK AHEAD

• Among the titles released this week, due on next week's charts: the "Now 25" various-artists compilation, Yellowcard's "Paper Walls," Colbie Caillat's "Coco," Chemical Brothers' "We Are the Night" and the commercial CD single "What Time Is It" from the "High School Musical 2" soundtrack.
• Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2006 when: the "Now 22" various-artists compilation retained the top slot for a second week, selling 207,000. Los Lonely Boys' "Sacred" started at No. 2 with 67,000 while Rodney Atkins' "If You're Going Through Hell" began at No. 3 with 55,000. Only the No. 1 album sold more than 100,000 units.

PROGRESS REPORTS

• AFI's side project Blaqk Audio debuts at No. 38 on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart this week with its debut single, "Stiff Kittens." The act comprises AFI members Davey Havok and Jade Puget, and will release its debut album, "CexCells," Aug. 14 ... The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus' "Face Down" ties the record for the most weeks logged on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart, as the former No. 3 hit spends a 52nd week on the tally. It moves up one spot to No. 17 this week. The quintet equals the mark set by labelmate 30 Seconds to Mars with "The Kill (Bury Me)" in February. "Face" will likely move to recurrent status next week, as the chart's rules stipulate that descending titles below the top 10 are removed after 52 weeks ... Meanwhile, on the Triple A radio chart, three songs make their debut this week: the Kooks' "She Moves in Her Own Way" at No. 28, Matt Nathanson's "Car Crash" at No. 29 and Robert Randolph & the Family Band Featuring Dave Matthews' "Love Is the Only Way" at No. 30. It's the first time the Kooks and Nathanson have visited the tally. It's the third hit for Randolph.

• Fergie's "Big Girls Don't Cry" sets a new record for the most weekly plays on the CHR/Top 40 radio chart, as it registers 10,088 spins for the tracking week ending July 15. "Big," which spends its second week at No. 1 on the chart, bests the record Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie" (9,657 detections) set on the June 9, 2006, chart. The Fergie ballad also continues its rapid crossover at adult radio, rising two spots to No. 8 on Hot AC/Adult Top 40 and climbing six rungs to No. 19 on the Adult Contemporary chart ... Speaking of the AC list, Michael Buble's "Everything" makes the quickest ascent to the top of the Adult Contemporary chart with a non-holiday title in almost three years as it rises 3-1 in its 16th week. The last non-Christmas title to reach the pole position quicker was Los Lonely Boys' "Heaven," which hit No. 1 in its 15th frame on the Sept. 24, 2004, chart. Buble celebrates his AC coronation on the second anniversary of his prior chart-topper reaching No. 1 -- "Home" spent its first of two weeks at No. 1 on the chart dated July 19, 2005.

• On the Dance Radio airplay chart, Rihanna's new "Don't Stop the Music" debuts at No. 24. On the Hot Dance Club Play chart, it's the second-highest debut at No. 36. While this track is worked to dance radio and club outlets, CHR/Top 40 radio stations are enjoying "Shut Up and Drive" as the second single from the "Good Girl Gone Bad" album. On the CHR/Top 40 chart, it moves up to No. 23 as her smash "Umbrella" slips one notch to No. 4 ... Also of interest on the Hot Dance Club Play chart this week is a debut from Robbie Williams with Pet Shop Boys at No. 38 with "She's Madonna." The tune, co-written and co-produced with Pet Shop Boys, is the third single to reach the chart with the word "Madonna" in the title. Junior Vasquez took his "If Madonna Calls" to No. 2 in 1996 while Madonna herself climbed to No. 5 with "Madonna Megamix" in 2002.

A reunited Crowded House returns to The Billboard 200, debuting at No. 46 with "Time on Earth" (16,000). It's the first time the band has reached the chart since 1994's "Together Alone" peaked at No. 73

That's an interesting way to put it; this is their first album of new material since Together Alone. lol

It's also their highest chart position since their second album, 1988's Temple of Low Men. The two '90s albums were top 10 in the UK (#6 and #4), but virtually nonexistent here. This is a good sign.

Pink's Who Knew, which flopped last summer (did not chart until U + Ur Hand picked up steak earlier this year), is now on its way to becoming a large hit at pop radio.
