LOVELY ONE

To me, these are some of the most underrated JACKSON 5 songs.

Well, none of those are J5 songs! lol

nod nod nod My favorite song featuring little Mike.

But again, it's not a J5 song. wink It is a great Marvin Gaye song, though (especially the unedited version on the I Want You Special Edition).

eek

I don't think I like it MORE than Gaye's but I certainly like this it. Actually Joyful Jukebox Music was the first album I ever had (my sis gave to me for Christmas back in like 76 or 77). I still pull it out every once in awhile. I have only good nostalgic warm feelings for just about all those tracks. Remember Window Shopping? Love Is the Thing You Need? Make Tonight All Mine?

I heard their version of "Chained" from their debut. smile And they funked it up when they did their version of Marvin's "Ain't That Peculiar" on their Japan live album. fro

Ain't That Peculiar is also on Jermaine 73 solo "Come into My Life"

The Marvin unreleased remake include:

- Ain't No Moutain High Enough
- Can I Get A Witness
- How Sweet It Is to Be Loved By You
- I Heard It Through the Grapevine
- Purple Snowflakes

I would LOVE to hear them one day. biggrin

Amen. cool

I love his shout out to his family on that version. smile

And "I Wanna Be Where You Are" was a little MJ solo joint. #16 pop and #2 R&B in 1972. It was sampled by MC Lyte's "Georgy Porgy". nod

Willie Hutch's version of that same song was nice too. fro

Thats not a Jackson 5 song, it's by a group formed in 1976 called "the Jacksons."

Well to defend Soulchild here, I would call "Show You the Way to Go" a J5 song, only difference is the group just changed their name to the Jacksons and the same lead singer, just no Jermaine, no Motown and no bubblegum but they're the same group. lol

Same thing really just without Jermaine and with Randy. Regardless of which incarnation of the J5 its still a great song

Then Jermaine came back eight years later. lol

They changed their sound so yeah "different group" but same last name: Jackson.

lol The daggone Rock & Roll Hall of Fame even lists some songs from the catalog into what they did as "The Jackson 5". They never look at the Jackson 5 and Jacksons as different groups. Only thing is they had a different sound, Michael wasn't sharing much leads much like before, and they were actually playing instruments on the records. lol It was like they shed skin and became a different snake so I can see why they're "different groups".

Apparently the Rock Hall does see them as different groups as only "The Jackson 5" are in and not little bro Randy. They do however lok at Parliament / Funkadelic as the same group. hmmm

Hmm, good point... hmmm They do look as P-Funk as the same group because in some way they were. lol

This is a great thread. That's why I like this forum you can get an indept discussion of the J5 underrated songs. Sometimes I truely believe that fans of other artists tend to know more about MJ and the J5 music than most of his actual hard-core fans.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Michael cover of People Make The World Go Round from the Ben album is another underrated song. It's not strictly J5, but it's still a 13 yr old Mike that takes a song and gives it's his own intrepretation.
