These tracks are certainly the creme of the crop on Invincible, including the title track (though I'm a little apathetic towards Whatever Happens)!

There are some good tracks on Invincible... not many but some! "Butterflies" was OK, "You Rock My World" was good fun, I loved the beat of "Invincible". And whatever the first track was. The album really wasn't that bad.

Except, around that time Prince was doing The Rainbow Children. Spot the difference biggrin

The only MJ albums I don't own are History and Blood on the Dancefloor. Worth getting?

Gosh, I haven't heard Break of Dawn in months. I'm gonna have to break out the album now to hear that track and Heaven Can Wait. Thanks for the reminder.

Butterflies was my favorite for the longest time, but I've overplayed that track. Break of Dawn is just irresistible.

I am not even a MJ fan and I like this song. It has a wonderful groove and would have made a good single (not Butterflies)

It could have hit.

There's a radio station in my area that regularly plays the song "Break Of Dawn" as if it were a single.I also recall the editor of Vibe magazine saying that it was his favorite track on the album.

HIStory is a must buy, really has some amazing tracks on it & Blood on the dancefloor is a good album although most of the tracks are remixes the 'ghosts' soundtrack that is inc is HOT!!

Invincible will stand the test of time, maybe when it was released it wasn't seen as anything especially 'new' in sound, but it will remain a timeless classic MJ album, not some 'old' sound.

Harlepolis

This song informed my love to this LP. Its my fave track along with Butterflies and I think that Invincible is the funkiest track in there.

rdhull-I AGREE about 'whateva happens', I thought that Santana did some great licks in it.

And can we please drop this MJ/PRINCE tired ass ragedy drama?? rolleyes If you're going to set here and compare TRC to Invincible then you're a fucking fool and I feel pity 4 yo sorry ass.

Shit, at least MJ's LP have a bright side in it. Why do almost everyone here drag every artist out there down just 4 Prince's sake?? I got 1 word 'RETARDED'

Invincible is a fantastic album, and for me, Speechless, Unbreakable and Heaven Can Wait are up there with anything from his back catalogue! Deduct about two fillers (Privacy and Don't Walk Away) and it's easily his best album.

Blood On The Dancefloor is worth getting just for the 5 new tracks (one of which is VERY Prince inspired). Download Morphine - one of the most original sounding cut I've heard in years.

Amen! Also,it's important to remember that MJ can't please everybody. There are always those who will say "He needs to call Quincy Jones and go back to a Thriller-type sound" and those who will insist "He needs to do something totally different".In the end,he can only do what HE chooses.

You guys heard Shout (the b-side to Cry)? It was originally on the album before he replaced it with You Are My Life. It is a hot jam!

This would've been the best MJ album ever:

Unbreakable
You Rock My World
Invincible
Break Of Dawn
Heaven Can Wait
Whatever Happens
Butterflies
Speechless
2000 Watts
Heartbreaker
Shout
Cry
The Lost Children
Threatened

Yeah, i've heard Shout, it's an okay song i guess. There's some good guitar work in there, Michael's vocals are kind of busy and fast and the lyrics are a bit more adventurous than usual but i'm not sure it would stand up to repeated listenings like most of the rest of the album. Altho' some folk aren't fond i think You Are My Life was a better choice.

in view of 9/11 he should have left 'Shout' on it.He'd have got a lot of praise for the lyrical content of that jam.

U see... that's where u can't please everyone, it's true. I agree with almost all of ur list except "2000 Watts". I think it's the weakest song on the album.

I love a lot of Michael's work and I've always thought "Invincible" (as a whole) could'a been better... but it's also not "trash" like a lot of haters make it out 2 b. Either u like Mike or u don't, there apparently is no middle ground.

I like Mike. biggrin

I ADORE 'SHout'. I didn't think all that much of it at first but after repeat listenings you can actually understand what he's singing. Here's the lyric:

***
Ignorance of people purchasing diamonds and necklaces,
And barely able to keep the payments up on their lessons,
And enrolled in a class and don't know who the professor is,
How low people go for the dough and make a mess of things,
Kids are murdering other kids for the fun of it,
Instead of using their mind or their fist, they put a gun in it
Wanna be a part of a clique, don't know who's running it,
Tragedy on top of tragedy you know it's killing me.
So many people in agony, this shouldn't have to be,
Too busy focusing on ourselves and not His Majesty,
There has to be some type of change for this day and age,
We gotta rearrange and flip the page,
Living encaged like animals and cannibals,
Eating each other alive just to survive the nine to five,
Every single day is trouble while we struggle and strive
Peace of mind's so hard to find.

Chorus:
I wanna shout, throw my hands up and shout
What's this madness all about
All this makes me wanna shout
You know it makes me wanna shout,
Throw my hands up and shout
What's this madness all about
All this makes me wanna shout, c'mon now

Verse 2:
Problems, complications and accusations
Dividing the nations and races of empty faces
A war is taking place.
No substitution for restitution, the only solution for peace
Is increasing the height of your spirituality.
Masses of minds are shrouded, clouded visions
Deceptions and indecision, no faith or religion, how we're living.
The clock is ticking, the end is coming, there'll be no warning,
But will we live to see the dawn.

Bridge:
How can we preach, when all we make this world to be
Is a living hell torturing our minds.
We all must unite, to turn darkness to light,
And the love in our hearts will shine.

Verse 3:
We're disconnected from love, we're disrespecting each other
Whatever happened to protecting each other
Poisoned your body and your soul for a minute of pleasure,
But the damage that you've done is gonna last forever.
Babies being born in the world already drug addicted and afflicted,
Family values are contradicted.
Ashes to ashes and dust to dust, the pressure is building and I've had enough.

Chorus out
***

My personal rendition of Invincible goes like this:

1. Unbreakable
2. Butterflies
3. Whatever Happens
4. You Rock My World (without Chris Tucker intro)
5. Break of Dawn
6. Shout
7. Heaven Can Wait
8. 2000 Watts
9. Speechless
10. Invincible
11. Don't Walk Away
12. Threatened

There it is, a really decent 12 track album. Only Don't Walk Away and 2000 Watts could IMO be considered as distinctly "average" (I put them in to even it out between ballads and up-tempos), and that's all just opinion anyway because I know people who adore some of the tracks I left out. Anyway, I burned it onto a CD of my own and it's the only version I listen to now. The album was seriously lacking balance, and that's what you get when you work with that many people at a time.

You can't please everyone so you just shove as much in as possible and hope people can pick out what they like. That's the wrong way to go about making an album as a whole though, it's more like a compilation. Thriller and Off The Wall to me aren't as good as Dangerous, but what makes them so damn classic is that they leave you wanting more.
