Is it me or does Damita Jo tell a story about a sluty, yet sensitive prostitute in most parts of the album? For example:

The title track has her talking about her personality, what she doesn't tolerate and what she likes to do then it goes into Sexhibition and Strawberry Bounce, which talks about the thing she wants to do to her man. Then she finds the man of her dreams and settles down with him on Spending Time With You.

maybe. my main problem with DJ is it doesn't flow well at all. it seems very choppy and prevents me from listening to it all the way. aside from the first 3 tracks all nite and slo love the album is a mystery to me.

i like 20YO because it actully flows well but it to me is just a collection of songs with no story.

20 Y.O. is pretty consistent, but it's still a hit and miss in my humble opinion. It's the 2nd half that makes me listen to it!

it's more consistent because it's fewer tracks.

I agree and the interludes is what amazes me about the album. i've noticed that the interludes sets up the songs well. The second part, which are the midtempo and slow jam cuts, makes up for most of the album, IMO.

The second half of 20 YO is the best part of the cd. I wished the entire cd sounded like the second half, though the first half was okay. razz

Janet is an artist who can do pop/rock and r&b. Allot of artists' male and female are unable to pull three genre's at the same time off.

The first half was alright, but JD shouldn't have handled the productions on most of those.

I see most of you saying
the 2nd half was the better side
of 20 YO... maybe that's why
I never got into it

I never get that far LOL sad

I didn't like the flow of damita jo either and have to keep shuffling tracks to enjoy it. My favourite part of the album on that is from island life through thinking about my ex and I like some of the other songs as well like strawberry bounce, sexhibition, spending time with you and just a little while

20 YO flows better but I myself prefer the last half of it, probably cause it's produced by jimmy and terry and not JD

oh and the interludes SUCK on them both!

I love it! But nah, I disagree, "Do It to Me" and "Love 2 Love" are album track classics in my book along with the ones you mentioned

lowkey

i love the 2nd half of 20 y.o, except for 'do it to me' i didnt care for the 1st half to much,(why wasnt 'days go by') on he album? i think DJ would have done very well had the superbowl not happened.'all for you' had some great moments but it had a few misses for me, on a whole i never hated a janet album, she has been pretty consistant imo.i think jd's presence in her music now has turned alotta fans off because he does not know how to produce an artist like janet. i'm a lil worried about the upcoming project based on some of the names im hearing she may be working wit, but i will wait and see for myself before i jump to judgement.

"Take Care" I did hear
and liked cool

I hear songs like
"New Agenda" & "Funky Big Band"
(from janet.)
and I hang my head in shame sad

OK, I have to ask:

You have heard Rhythm Nation 1814, right? Control? The Velvet Rope? janet.?

lol

lol Yep heard them but 'All For You' did it for me.
Yeah i really like 'Control' and 'RN' but I keep listing
to All For You, I guess its just a catchy pop album, pure fun.
'Janet' i never got into, how much I tried. Too many slow james for me.
'The Velvet Rope' yeah thats a good album, but for so some reson I listen
to Damita Jo & All For You even more than that,
I guess those two keep me in a good mood. wink

the question is how OLD are you?

Is it me or does Damita Jo tell a story about a sluty, yet sensitive prostitute in most parts of the album? For example:

The title track has her talking about her personality, what she doesn't tolerate and what she likes to do then it goes into Sexhibition and Strawberry Bounce, which talks about the thing she wants to do to her man. Then she finds the man of her dreams and settles down with him on Spending Time With You.

Aww. Well, you don't expect for Janet to be like Erykah Badu do you? Her stuff is consistent on her albums. Man, oh man do I miss Badu! Janet changes up allot. There are times when the songs on her last two cds are completely different from the previous ones. Though some may dislike, I LIKE.... lol

it would have been a major success had it not been for the aftermath of superbowl. Viacom practially banned her from MTV

I think slolove is her worst song ever, truly was filler,my baby was better for ashanti though it grew on me, and warmth was simply a hot mess.

ladies! just admit your songs dont all fit on the same record and that it's not musically or lyrically whole in terms of theme - no need to make up different character, names, costumes, wigs, etc. just say you're a psychotic skitzophrenic split personality mess - we all know it's true of all 3 lol
