I'm not a fan at all, but this really was an exceptional performance. It's taken from a Juno broadcast (Canada's low-rent version of the grammys), '04 if I remember correctly, where she also performed Helpless in tribute to Neil Young who'd just suffered from a brain anuerysm and wasn't able to attend. I remember that everybody was talking about her segment the next day, which is really all the more remarkable when you consider she hadn't really been seen as a premier/hot performer for quite a few years.

Beautiful take on that piece.
Co-sign on the bare feet. whofarted

Interesting to see her add so much melody and depth to a Leonard Cohen piece with his rather deadpan & pretty much spoken word sounding delivery.

...Leonard Cohen's version

The first time I watched this, I must have spent half an hour just replaying it.

Stunning ~ thank you for posting. It is one of my favourite songs on the Hymns album.

Have you ever heard Jeff Buckley's version? I think he was the first one to cover it this way.

This song contains, IMHO, one of the best lines ever: "Love is not a victory march". worship

Yeah - that resonated with me too. When you're gay, even just holding hands in the street can become construed as a political statement.
