Victor is one of the greatest bassists walking the Earth that I know of, at least. I know some of the Prince fans are gonna mention his nod to Prince's bass playing but really, Victor is on a level far and above Prince, Levi, Sonny, Andre, Rhonda and Mark.

Victor Wooten doing what VW does.

I saw Victor play fairly recently...

...with Mike Stern. Dennis Chambers was on drums. Not that's a rhythm section.

He's coming back in December with the Chick Corea Electrik Band.

Incidentally, VW comes from an incredibly talented musical family. The Wooten Brothers are a Nashville staple, and the excel at playing all sorts of things very, very well. So well, in fact, that they often speed up the jams to show off their chops.

You can here his brother Regi tearing it up on the guitar on Vic's live CD.

And, I strongly recommend anyone interested in Vic snatch up his solo CDs and the first 4 Bela Fleck & the Flecktones albums.

I'm partial to "Flight of the Cosmic Hippo," their second.

You ain't never lied. I have never wanted to play the bassmore until after watching him play. He muct be like, the greatest bass player to ever live. But, then of course, he's a virtuoso, which means that he is one with his instrument. It's like a body part or something. This guy is to bas what "Steve Vai" is to guitar. cool

Victor is a great bassist for sure.
I'm reluctant to check out his solo stuff though. Even though I'm a bassist, I'm not very interested in listening to bass players' solo stuff. They usually end up being a whole album full of showing off.
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

That's true lol I remember one reviewer saying he was afraid to buy alot of bass solo albums cause he would just end up with alot of rumbling and furniture moving around his apartment, lol

I agree, Victor is truly a bad MF on the bass, one of the baddest cats around...even legends like Stanley Clarke give him serious props---but I must admit, I enjoy hearing him playing on other people's albums more than on his own stuff, at least so far....

with most bassists in general IMO, there should probably be more emphasis on the compostions themselves...

that was one of the things I loved about Jaco Pastorius--- although he could certainy granstand, when it came to albums, especially his own solo albums, the compositions were the most important thing. The music came first, not how fast you could play--hell, on an album like Word of Mouth he sounds more like a sideman or guest rather than the principal artist. In fact, harmonica master Toots Thieleman gets most of the spotlight.....

That concert should be a serious jam with Chick Corea.
