Yep. "dangerous" was bought for me for my birthday in december 1991. Cassette got worn out so much u could hear the other side on the silent bits. Kids would ask me to play it. All i had was an old boombox but we rocked that thing in my neighbourhood LOL. I was only 6/7, but i guess my generation was the last to see that side of Mike.

His face wasn't "normal" anymore, his clothes/look sucked, in 1993 it was already the tired danceroutine, the lips-synch, no more (good) suprises, he was on the decline infatuated by his "kop" superego.

agreed...which makes Prince's SB performance a tad more impressive.

I think that Mj fans are a little wacky but there are some wacky Prince fans on this site.

I was a fan until Mj went crazy with the look and the kids and all of that. I think for many, MJ maybe never touched a child BUT he never learned either.

Both Michael and Prince's Super Bowl performances were enjoyable IMHO. I don't think either or were better than the other.

I was just 7 years old when Michael hit the superbowl. I was amazed. I taped the whole performance (for some reason the "dangerous" VHS only shows the "heal the world" segment?). Anyway, i still have the thing, and even though he lyp-synchs throughout the whole thing, its still a great specticle. It takes balls to just stand there, for about 2 minutes straight, posing in freeze frame, at a football game. Love it.

I also taped the whole performance. In all of my years of watching the Superbowl, I have never seen the reaction that Michael received about his performance. I have footage of the sports commentators actually going crazy and saying that his performance was mindblowing. When I say that EVERY sportscommentator and sports caster was going crazy, I mean it. THe next day, the radio DJ's were doing the same thing. Everybody everywhere were talking about it. I've never seen a performance completely overshadow a Superbowl BEFORE the game and AFTER the game. Prince's performance was great and the reaction was awesome; however, I still don't think that the reaction to his performance was as unprecedented as the reaction to Michael's was. Of course, some want to try and diminish that reaction because of the recent happenings in Michael's life. No matter how hard they try, no one can take that part of his "history" away.

Having heard Dave Navarro do that song on Live Earth I can understand his fans' reaction. His version was way better. I'd never heard it before the Superbowl and though I liked P's version (especially the solos), it did expose his vocal limitations. On the other hand Navarro's version the other night was fucking unbelievable, so I can understand his fans being underwhelmed with P's tribute, although P's Superbowl performance overall was great, especially All Along The Wathchtower (caught me totally by surprise), and PR. Hell, it kicked holy shit out of MJ's predictable lip synched performance 14 years earlier.

You mean Grohl? I personally liked FF's original version better too.....just like when they did "Darling Nikki". Imo, no version is gonna top Prince, but I didn't think their version was terrible either. Hardcore Prince fans gave Foo Fighters hell over it.

Grohl, that's it. I get all these American rock dudes mixed up. I have to say it again though, I loved his version on Live Earth. It rocked....HARD! .

And your point is...?

I don't think his point is hard to see
- MJ got bigger ratings because his performance was better.
Its as simple as that.

Logic bypass on display here. People tuning into a performance don't know how good it's going to be until they've actually seen it, so the figures have nothing to do with the quality. They merely reflect Michael's huge public profile. Many people tuned in to watch MJ's performance and were bored because they'd seen it all before and it was corny, with the band who weren't playing, the radio mic he wore when he wasn't singing, the dance moves we'd seen a million times before, the same old songs, the inflatable globe and smiling kids. MJ's performance was hyped up completely before the game, but it didn't live up to expectations. P's performance was not so widely anticipated and it totally surpassed all expectations. It was live, full of surprises, and the material was way better than MJ's. I'm sure naive 7 year old kids would have loved MJ's performance, but for the grown ups it just seemed like an empty pantomime.

I have to give my two cents because this thread is really offensive to me as a Michael Jackson fan.

So what if Michael Jackson fan's on youtube are dissing Chris Cornell's cover of Billie Jean? Guess what. It's not that good. All he did was make it really slow, really depressing and that makes it really good to most people. It's not a good cover IMO and I'm not just saying that because I am a Jackson fan.

What would you say to Prince fans who diss Tom Jones' cover of Kiss? That they are loony? Insane? Obsessive? I think not. As it has been and always will, people have double standards when it comes to Michael Jackson and his fans.

In a way, this thread makes me so damn proud to be a fan of Michael Jackson. People who hate him can't get enough of him. Everybody loves talking about him. Everbody is obsessed with him. Nothing has changes since the 80s except that it's not "cool" to like him anymore. Everybody still loves him, they just are afraid to admit it. Even to themselves.

Face it folks. You know Michael Jackson is the best thing that ever happened to the world. Call me a crazed MJ fanatic. But what does that make you? Atleast I have the guts to admit I am an MJ fan. You all love him so much that you will find any excude to talk about him. And since it's not "cool" to like him you start hate threads about him. It's very funny.

That's my rant for the day. Enjoy. I look forward to your messages of hate and abuse.

Who exactly was ranting and hollering? About two people I think. Most of us would never have heard that b.s. if we hadn't read it on the org.

I know. Michael has become the pied piper of weirdos, but nothing you or I can say is gonna change them, so the best thing is to ignore them and get them out of our orbit that way. Either you ignore them or you get pissed off by them. I'd rather ignore them.

That's the reason he attracts them, because they recognise him as one of their own. A total kook who's allowed to get away with it and is also extremely successful. It stands to reason they'd love him. Back in the day, his talent was to the fore so he attracted people with that. Nowadays he doesn't actually do anything and when he does it's a shambles, so the only new converts or remaining defenders are unbalanced people who know nothing about music, but just love seeing a fellow kook be such a huge icon.

You know it's funny that while this is being discussed, over at the MJJForum board, people are at odds over Michael. People over there are getting so frustrated by the slow development over Mike's album after the Billboard thread was posted when they announced his album to be out next year. Some were all saying "oh he's gonna flop", others were saying "oh shut the hell up he knows what he's doing" and others like me try to see a common ground here. Because it seems like Michael's fans have this weird concept that they know Michael and sometimes I shake my head in disbelief and be like "but you don't". Some don't believe Michael will falter under pressure (especially considering the hellhole that either someone put him through with callousness or what he did with his own stupidity) and others believe Michael had chances and "blew it". That's the frustrating thing about being a fan of a celebrity that comments about either a growing dislike or a growing cult adoration turns you against an artist that was once your favorite artist and when that artist is Michael Jackson, it almost feel like you're in a sibling/family quarrel and that's just sad.
