Worst album by your favorite artists

What are the albums by your favorite artists that just don't quite measure up?

  • Prince- New Power Soul- half the songs are decent, half are unforgivable!

  • Madonna- I'm Breathless- There are a few keepers (Vogue, Hanky Panky, Something to Remember, More), but most of the rest is juvenile!

  • The Cure- Wild Mood Swings- Too schizo, even by Cure standards!

  • Eurythmics/Annie Lennox- Medusa- was a cover album really necessary?

  • Bjork- 1977 debut- Who knew she would blossom into what she has having heard this crap?

  • Janet Jackson- DREAM STREET- pretty much the worst album ever...she's pretty much "Dream Street" with this one...

  • Blondie- Once More Into the Bleach- who wants to hear Debbie Harry's solo versions of Blondie's classic songs? I certainly don't!

  • David Bowie- Never Let Me Down- makes "Dream Street" sound like "Low."

  • Depeche Mode- A Broken Frame- what happened here?

I'd have to agree with many of these. Dream Street is about as bad as it gets.

*Madonna- Evita; sure the singing is great but I'd much rather hear these songs in the movie. I think I listened to the cd's once. bored

*New Order- Movement; some decent songs on here but they were trying too hard to sound like Joy Division and Bernard was trying too hard to write deep/profound lyrics. They really became the band we know and love on their follow-up ep the year later.

*Smashing Pumpkins- Machina; obtuse anyone? again, some great stuff on here but the worst of the bunch.

*Tricky- Blowback; a huge disappointment after 5 stellar 5 star albums. Hopefully it was just a bad day. boo

*Tori Amos- From the Choirgirl Hotel; lost me with this one hon.

*U2- October; blah. weak and boring inbetween Boy and War.

*Prince- For You; immature and cheap sounding. I've never been a fan of this.

For You can hit the bricks! brick

Terence -- Neither Fish nor Flesh (did your ego think you invincible?)

Lenny -- hmmm... i actually like Circus

Janet -- The Velvet Rope and forward (i had a crush on her during her first two albums so i won't count them worst)

Madonna -- i didn't like her at all until after she did that song "Secret" and then re-made "Love Don't Live Here" -- she's been consistently good since then

Prince -- New Power Soul -- i just don't see how he made this confused album at the same time he had helped to make the L4OA site so positive and spiritual. i am bitter, but a few songs on it are very good

The Time -- Ice Cream Castle -- don't like it, sorry. nothing like the first two. Pandemonium isn't either, but i like it much better.

Jesse -- Bare My Naked Soul was kind of a let down -- going rock was cool, but nothing was great on this one.

Sheila E. -- Romance 1600 -- had a lot of silly throw-away garbage on it. but all the other albums are great.

Andre Cymone -- Living in the 80s -- stunk! besides one song, "I Need You" or "Don't Go" (something like that) -- the other two albums were great, but then what happened?!

Hmmm... I'm tired... I'll come back to this later.

I have to say Alicia Keys, Songs in A minor... What a disapointment!!! Especially after listening to How come U don't call me anymore... Why redo a perfect song to turn it into crap...?

***Stevie Wonder 'Conversation Peace'(1995)---Stevie is one of my all-time favorite artists and I adore his 70s work. But this CD just doesn't do it for me.Stevie sings in his usual impressive manner, but the songs aren't that interesting or exciting. It's the only Stevie CD that bored me.

***Earth Wind and Fire 'Powerlight'(1983)---I love this band, but by 1983,they seemed to have run out of ideas. This album has a few cool songs, but mostly it's by-the-numbers electronic funk that sounds flat and uninpired.

***Madonna 'I'm Breathless' (1990)---Gotta agree with Moonbeam. This is Madonna's weakest work yet.Her voice shows a surprising amount of range but for the most part, these are just "novelty songs" designed to fit into the "Dick Tracy" film. It's a nice, fun little album but not much more.

***Santana with John McLaughlin 'Love Devotion Surrender'(1973)---A total snooze-fest.

***Donna Summer 'Mistaken Identity'(1991)---On this CD,Summer decided to jump on the New Jack Swing bandwagon with disastrous results. She even tries hip-hop on a few songs!!

***Quincy Jones 'Q's Jook Joint'(1996)---I love Quincy and his earlier albums are classics. But this CD is a bloated,over-produced mess!! There's so many guest artists and rappers that you can't tell who's who.And I can't forgive him for what he did with the Brothers Johnson classic "Stomp"!!

Prince..Chaos and Disorder (barf)

Madonna..I'm Breathless (it was cute and fun, but nothing special)

Janet...All For You (Sorry, Moonbeam...too much filler!)

Blur..The Great Escape (the novelty of Parklife taken way too far)

Bjork..Debut (not cos it's bad, just cos the others got sooo good!)

The Charlatans..Tellin Stories (it was good, just not great...still under the circumstances-all is forgiven)

Primal Scream..Give Out But Don't Give Up (the Scream does the Black Crows and flops...altho the cut with George Clinton was pretty funky!)

that's good for now...

Prince- 1999- yes, a real Prince fan that doesn't like that album (at least as much as the others)

Madonna- Evita (worse than I'm Breathless)
Elton John- Leather Jackets (If you've never heard of that album, there's a reason)

Elvis Costello- Goodbye Cruel World
Steely Dan- Countdown to Ecstasy (and this isn't that bad)
Dave Matthews Band- Everyday
Stevie Wonder- that album he put out in '87, can't remember the name, it sucked so bad

No Doubt- No Doubt

omg You like it the least of ALL his albums? Wow! You are bold! I respect that, though, even if I'll never understand.

I actually thought it didn't have ANY filler, whereas "janet." has quite a bit and "The Velvet Rope" has some as well.

-You Ain't Right- nice, angry opener with a fierce beat!
-All for You- Classic single that just oozes confidence and fun
-Come On Get Up- wonderful club dub! This got some radio play even though it wasn't a single
-When We Oooo- nice, soothing, sensual and touching ballad
-China Love- interesting instrumentation on this nice ballad
-Love Scene- Janet at her dreamiest
-Would You Mind- Janet at her raunchiest here...love the ending!
-Trust a Try- my favorite from the album- it goes EVERYWHERE!
-Son of a Gun- Janet and Carly lay down the FUNK
-Truth- poignant attack on Rene
-Someone to Call My Lover- fun, laid-back groove
-Feels So Right- The chorus really resonates through me for some reason
-Doesn't Really Matter- I love that she put on the remix version
-Better Days- an emotional masterpiece

Filler is in the ear of the beholder. I can see how one might think this is full of it.

Someone who doesn't like janet might say all of it. I love most of it too but to a long-time fan some of the songs might sound average or like she's done it before. Like...

You Ain't Right, Come On Get Up, Love Scene, Would You Mind?, Feels So Right, Doesn't Really Matter, etc.

I know for a fact that many people hate the latter.

Feels So Right? sad It's one of my favorites! Even the remix of Doesn't Really Matter?

Poor Moonbeam, always having to rush to the aid of All For You! biggrin

I just haven't gotten into it, I sit an try to listen and just think "huh, i've heard this all before...SKIP!"

I'm gonna try again though, I'll bring it with to work tonite and give it some attention, maybe I'll find what you love so much in the album as a whole!

It's all in the sound and the fresh attitude. You've heard something like "Trust a Try" before? "Son of a Gun?" "Better Days?" If so, share the wealth!

That's what I mean! I think the inclusion of the remix of "Doesn't Really Matter" is a great idea! I COULD see people's distaste for the studio version if that were included- it would seem like she was resting on her laurels. But she gave us something different.

But then again, some fans may not have known about it being a remix and may have been deceived into buying it for that song alone! Janet spank

I'm not even talking about the remix version. I've heard many people on this site alone say how tuneless and shitty that song is. I don't understand it but I think the public opinion is mixed.
