Becks new cd - worth buying?

I've read great reviews of Becks lastest cd, but I don't trust the magazine reviews. Anyone here bought it or heard it? I would love to know what you think.

If you want, you can hear all of the songs as streaming audio at Beck.com. It's under the "news" feature. Also, most of the songs can be downloaded at Kazaa (sp?). I have a friend who has a bootleged version and they said the album is awsome. Hope this helps...

I've heard most of the songs and I just felt it was ok. Kind of interesting musically in most of the songs, but for such open, confessional ballads, Beck is not one I would choose to be singing them... His voice in these songs was tough to swallow. Unlike Mutations, where a similar style of music wasn't sung with quite so much disinterest (at least that's what his voice conveys to me...)

Musically and lyrically though, some songs were interesting to me (Paper Tiger) and some were just plain boring (Golden Age). Most of the songs sound similar to each other however. A mixed bag.

4 a few months now i'v been dowloading lots of new cd's (u wouldn't blieve what crap is released these days, u should hear the new Will Smith album), and this one (Beck's) has been on repeat 4 a while now. Wouldn't say it's classic or anything, but it's consistently decent and listenable all the way tru, and that's a lot these days.

Anything from Beck is worth buying IMO. From what I understand it's much different, but a very good album. I'm going to pick it up at lunch time.

Thanks to all of you for taking the time to respond. I will see if I can find it in the used cd store. We have a great one right in my neighbourhood. It's surprising how often I can find fairly new releases there.

Ok, I've listened to it 3 times already and I like it. You definitely have to be in a mellow mood to listen to it. But don't listen to it if you're depressed...

So far my picks are:

The Golden Age
Little One
Paper Tiger
Lost Cause
End of the Day

Ahhh I keep adding another song!!

Beck was on KCRW this morning and I thought that his new stuff is fantastic. Very different and mellow but it sounds great. Can't wait to pick up the album.

Ha! Yeah, ZaZa's got it right- it's Gordon Lightfoot on downers...

I love mellow songs and ballads, but this new stuff just doesn't cut it for me.
