Ummm...Madonna? We are friends, right? Well...put down the guitar till you can do this:

The psychology of Sinead astounds me and has probably f*cked up a good portion of my relation capabilities...this song, Troy, could probably never be made in today's world...

For a woman to admit her sexual powers and vulnerabilities at the same times...wow, its mindblowing. Cha no, sinead IMHO is the true artist to be embraced by the public and then to get chewed up by it when she did nothing but maintain true to herself. If madge could only be a tenth of sinead's genuineness.

I heart sinead...and this performance gives me the chills...

damn i love youtube...

and damn why can't today's artist have the emotional weight of this:

it's sad...christina could do this song and carry the emotional power of the story...when i hear sinead's version i invision her personal struggles...if i were to hear christina or beyonce do this song i would think of how much their throats must hurt...

sinead really had some guts to hear the lyric in this song and realize how much it equated with her own feelings at the time...and to share it knowing that it would kill any momentum that she had gained with Nothing Compares 2 U...but i hear it now and understand...this is how she felt at the moment...this is what she needed to say...another example of that is her version of "Success"...i must find that on youtube now...brb.

hot damn...here it is...for me this song embodies how a true artist responds to "pop" success...if your in it for the art, then popularity is secondary...thats how i wish prince would see things...kinda of get annoyed by it and keep on chuckin...but instead his art makes me feel as if he is courting even more success while sinead seems to hate/love the public acclaim she has received and she shares with her listening audience her trials with said success. its honest...and its emotional...and i as a listening audience appreciate the honesty. its the same vibe i got when i first heard "troy" as a snot nosed teenage and thought, "wow...these lyrics...i've felt that before...and nobody has ever expressed that in a song before and i relate...and it hurts".

but hey, a new album called Planet Earth is coming out and I can't wait to hear more korny sh*t from an over the hill millionaire. while he is singing about partying i will tire of it, put it away and cry over stuff like this:

When she ripped up the picture of the pope on SNL, which I saw, She became an Icon to me. She talks the talk and walks the walk and has always stayed true to herself. That alone puts her on a whole different level than any other pop "artist".

cause every time madonna grabs a guitar i run to the bar...picking up a guitar can be a beautiful thing...*this* should be the standard for female guitar performers...yet its not...hence the thread title.

shrug I think it's awesome that in her mid-40's, after becoming probably the most famous woman in the world and one of the biggest pop stars in history that she wants to push herself and better herself and learn something new.

those fans spent their money on her because they wanted to do so.

I am fan and I did not spend my money seeing her live.

I think the comparison is appropriate. They combined their art and politics in similar ways, but Sinead's product always seemed more fleshed out and genuine to me. Madonna was able to bring her message to a larger audience, because she was much more of a provocateur. And, yeah, Sinead's better on the gheetar. I don't think Sinead's ever recorded a more powerful song than Troy. As far as I'm concerned it's her best.

lol that's a pretty awful album cover. It's as if she's saying "See? I'm not the bitter hag you think I am! I'm smiling, so god damn you all!!"

Other than Molly Malone I like the album, though.

I love that album, but yeah the photo's horrid. I've always thought it looks like they caught her having a poo in the bushes.
