Duran Duran new album update

John Taylor told fans that the new recordings are finished and the album could have a September release, but most of all that "it's going to be our best selling album, it's going to be huge, something that you've never heard from us."

Roger Taylor updates:

Anyway, I'm here in London listening to Simon cut final vocals whilst the rest of the album is being mixed in the studio next door by Nate 'Danja' Hills and Jimmy Douglass. Timbaland and Justin Timberlake have signed off on their parts so it seems that we are finally reaching the final furlong of a very long course. I can now say with the greatest of confidence that you will be hearing new material by the Summer!

If they go on tour to promote it,
I hope they perform "Rio".

man is it me or is Rio an underrated classic. the musician-ship (if that's a word) on that song is incredible! i hope for D double that John Taylor is right, but too many variables to consider that will work against them.

the state of the industry as it relates to album sales
their older core fan base which probably won't account for chart-topping sales
the difficulty of winning over a significant number of new fans as an 80s MTV boy band
the reality that real "significant comebacks" in the industry are RARE
the fact that hillary duff has a singing career is indicative of the record buying public's idea of quality

But the main issue is that bringing in JT and Timbaland seems like a "pathetic" attempt to be down. Lets face it they are 45-50 years old at this point with a strong following, why true to zone in on 15-20 year olds who have never even heard of you? All i know is I have go see Duran on tour this time around and i got some 15 year old in front of me who is just there to see if they sing a song with JT im gonna throw up.

From DuranDuran.com:

The four band members are currently in the studio in London putting the finishing touches to their next album which features collaborations with top producer Timbaland, Justin Timberlake and Nate "Danja" Hills (Timbaland's long-time collaborator who co-produced Nelly Furtado's ‘Promiscuous’ and Justin Timberlake's ‘Sexy Back’).

The first single is expected later this summer, with the album to follow on Sony/BMG in the Fall.

The mid 1980's WAS Duran Duran. I can remember every hot chick was into them! As soon that one of their songs one played, they would run onto the dance floor.

This new album isnt going to be anything close. They are all middle age lol

John Taylor interviewed on radio. A fan summed it up:

Working with Timbaland and Timberlake was unexpected. They had a plan in mind and ended up going on a different route. The record company asked DD who they wanted to work with and Timbaland made the grade. Justin's people called DD up just 2 days before they were due to go in the studio with Timbaland asking if Justin could be involved.

Single due out June/July

Album due out September

They are excited about the album. JT said T&T are amazing guys. It's the first time in years they have had "hands on" producers who calved out the sound. DD are usually controlling but this time they let it go and the result is "extraordinary." and very different.

Nearly three years after their last release, rockers Duran Duran are currently working on their upcoming album with the help of Hip-Hop producer Timbaland and his protégé Danjahandz.

Danjahandz, a young Virginia native, first caught Timbaland’s attention in 2001 and two years later, the young producer was brought to Timbaland’s studio in Miami to put his production talents to work.

"The actual process of making the album [with Duran Duran] was cool," Danjahandz told AllHipHop.com. "We just went in there as musicians, I think that's what was beneficial for me, playing those instruments, came into play. Because I had to become a musician, not a producer a beat maker, I had to become a musician and write songs. It was just an easy thing for me, the dudes were real open for me and where I was taking them. It was just a cool experience.”

In a short span Danjahandz has worked with a number of artists and is currently working on material for Eve, DJ Khaled, 50 Cent, Chris Brown, and of course, Duran Duran.

The Grammy Award winning English pop/rock band has been cranking out hits since the 80's and have sold more than 80 million records worldwide, based on hit singles like "Hungry Like the Wolf," "Girls on Film," "The Reflex,' the James Bond theme from A View to a Kill.

“For them to be in the game for 25 years, and be out for however long they was out, and then just gon’ drop back in and change some things, its gonna be big,” Danjahandz said.

Together Danjahandz and Timbaland have produced three tracks for Duran Duran including "Skin Divers," "Zooming In," and “Night Runner” featuring Justin Timberlake.

According to group member Simon LeBon, the association with Hip-Hop has helped them become exposed to a new audience.

"We've gotten interest from will.I.am, and from Gnarls Barkley as well," LeBon said in published reports. "There's a possibility -- no, a probability -- we'll do that."

Duran Duran will perform during the UK's Live Earth concert on July 7, with the likes of Madonna, The Beastie Boys, Genesis, James Blunt, John Legend, Bloc Party, Corinne Bailey Rae, Foo Fighters, Keane and others.

Danjahandz is an awful producer, his beats are already used up and played out, why Duran is wasting time on this really makes no sense to me, Duran should be focusing more on the euromarket than the US market which is where they are aiming.

maybe it's just me but I know of teens who think duran duran is a cool vintage band, so if they play their cards right musically, they could have a huge comeback.

Agree... Astronaut mixed modern sounds with classic DD perfectly!!... Reminded us all where The Killers and Arctic Monkeys are biting from...

Also, Prince could take a note from the guys on how to STILL dress fashion forward.

It better end up really good. The core fans are pretty pissed over last Sunday's NYC show. If they lose them, then they are finished.
