The BEYONCE double standard Thread

Could she be the most hated/put down artist on this forum? I think she is, but im starting to see the double standards in the discussions. One would be Beyonce's sexy image, short outfits, legs, booty etc.. OK go pick up the last issue of KING magazine and whos on the cover for the second time KELLY ROWLAND, and when you ask people they just say, oh she's just trying to get her "piece" of the action, OK thats fine, but when does a cover like that we trash her like some $2 whore. Another double standard would be the whole Video anthology issue, the complaints were how could she do this, the videos look cheap, and yet if Prince put out a collection of his videos from the 90's, the ones where he shot them all on the same soundstage, we'd lap it up like dogs that hadnt been fed in decades . And i guess the last would be the whole "she is everywhere", well thats just the way it goes sometimes, every decade has that artist(s) that put out stuff all the time, get all the coverage etc, in the 50's you had Elvis, 60's the beatles, the 70's elton and stevie, the 80's michael, madonna and prince, the 90's Mariah, and now you got Beyonce for this decade, thats just the way it goes. Personally i like Beyonce, i would like to see her change some things in her music, but shit i feel that way about any artist that ive liked for a long time, Mariah one of my favorites, i feel she has never done a really good album yet, but Beyonce is still very young, though not in industry standards.

Lots of Beyonce haters on this site. I really don't know why. I'm not a huge fan, but IMO Beyonce is much more talented that the Britneys of the world. She is definitely overexposed, but her music isn't that bad. I don't care for her choice of men, but that's her business.

I would much rather listen to Beyonce, than those like Rihanna, Ciara, Britney, Jessica and so on and so on.

Give me Beyonce anyday over those like Lil Kim, Kelis and the Pussycat Dolls ill

I would like her as a waitress.
I would like her as a bus driver.
I would like her as a nurse.
I would like her as a doctor.
I would like her as a porn star.

But as a pop singer, who is everywhere,
oh honey...no dead

I like Beyonce. I just dont like the way her sophomore album was handled and the videos were a bad idea. But the music industry is so weird now so I don't know if she is to blame for being overexposed.

truth is... Bey ain't goin nowhere
and I've learned to accept it
aformentioned, she's this generations "IT" act
she's gonna be everywhere you look for a while
if you don't like it, then "close your eyes
and remember" (ala Minnie) a time when she was unheard of LOL
I don't know what else to suggest

although I don't by any means HATE the girl
I wish she would sit down some of the damn time
but hey, like the saying goes... you gotta
strike while the iron is hot!

I hadn't entertained a Beyonce thread
in a good while now... because there are so many
(here & on other boards)

I really do like her, alot
she's southern, she's attractive
I love most of her music esp Survivor, TWOTW,
and DIL albums... and have grown to like B'Day (so much it scares me)
she has a fierce style of oversinging
that you kind of have to get accustomed to

one thing that does get in my skin
is her love of the "Josephine Johnny" (dance)
I mean Bey... I KNOW you've been to THE BOOT since '01
nobody does that dance anymore ROTFL, find a new one

BTW... I am LOVING that extended mix
of "Get Me Bodied" (video as well) love
I've said it before... but she's
giving me DJ Jubilee/Partner's N Crime on this joint
with the whole "call out dance" section
she really took it back

she really shows alot of love to THE BOOT
I used to suck my teeth @ her for that
cuz if you didn't know any better
you'd think she was actually from Louisiana ::rolls eyes::
but it's an honor actually...

keep doing your thing Bey

It has nothing to do with Beyonce being HOT. There just is a double standard that is going on with her, and how we look at other artists. I was reading this article the other day about Amy Whinehouse and she was talking about how she is quitting the music business, and im thinking fuck, everytime someone gets a touch of "mainstream success" they flip out and quit, if you feel that way than dont sign with a label and just play clubs your whole life. The Beyonce thing, well, havent looks always mattered? Why did Diana Ross become the star while the other supremes did nothing? Why is Angelina Jolie the most wanted actress? Because she is great at her craft? Or because she is hot? I mean that whole Male/Female double standard has always been there, a Male performer can go out there and look like a sack a dirt and if he has a little talent he is considered god, while a female pretty much has to have both, but looks come up first, but its always been that way, lets not make it like Beyonce started the trend.

As far as her taking over and being everywhere, well blame the industry for that. The talent pool has dropped decade by decade, look at Beyonces competetion, yeah good luck finding it, because its all in the mold of her. In other decades you didnt have the "industry" looking for everyone to be the same. Take the 60's sure u had the Beatles, but you also had Motown and James and Aretha, diana and the Stones. In the 70's you had a mix of everything, Elton,Stevie,Disco,Manilow,Sly,Ewf,Donna Summer,Billy Joel in the 80's u had madonna, michael, prince, duran, jovi, springsteen. But as we got to the 90's things started to change, and now that we are in the 2000's, im sorry, but the talent pool and the industry and how it presents itself and searches for talent has truly fallen off.

and much like JLo she'll fade in time. she doesn't have an interesting personal life or stir up enough controversy to keep the public interested.

I doubt highly that Beyonce will disappear into obscurity. Even JLO who we might think is "OVER" isnt. Every artist has there time on TOP when they can do no wrong, when they are in, when they are wanted by everyone. Every person that is considered an icon goes through that. But to say JLO is faded into obscurity would be like saying Elton or Prince or Madonna has faded into obscurity, everyone has their "IT" time and then they level off. Beyonce is at that place now, she is "IT" and one day will level off, but obscurity, i dont think so, where not talking about a one-two hit wonder here.

As for BOOTY, well dont think that will fade for awhile!

I agree.. I have no beef with Beyonce.. she's very pretty and her personality matches.. which is why she's hated.. but I wish she'd get Usher's ppl or Marques Houston's ppl (a slammin'producer) to do her music.. i do NOT like some of her tracks disbelief .. she gets away with it .. I know if somebody like an 'Ashanti' a 'Cassie', or any other artist would have sung some of B's track ..they would have been shot down for singing them...

I think there is a lot of reason for Beyonce ragging. For the most part, I think it has to do with the album not to mention the (for the most part) low quality videos. Her first album showed a lot of promise...this one....Shows a lot of outakes! I mean, the fact that she had that many clunkers sitting there collection dust that she could rerelease her disc with that many bonus tracks. The first release of "B'Day" album wasn't that good to begin with!

It's just getting old. That simple?

People say she's our generation's Diana Ross, but (even though this is just my opinion), unlike Diana, most of her music is your typical, brainless, club-ready Hot 100 fare anybody could have recorded, both with DC and solo.

Diana has a lot of crap in her discography, but at least has a whole slew of golden Motown oldies and some fine *early* solo material to her name (plus some good acting talent and a classier style). What great, timeless music has Beyonce put out so far? "Can ya pay my automobills"? "My body too bootylicious for ya, baby"? An imitation of "Love To Love You Baby"? Gimme a break. disbelief I'll admit "Crazy In Love" was a pretty good single, though.

thank you finally someone sees that she's this decade's biggest artist like michael in the 80's and mariah in the 90's! she's going to be a legend, she has an old soul when it comes to talent with those pipes and she blends in old school with modern day hip hop culture

if in the 00's she is all we've got then fine in terms of comparable talent to others in the mainstream, but would you really place her in the same category as Michael in the 80's?????
