Stanley Jordan's so good that I fucking hate him!

Oh man, he's such an amazing Jazz guitarist that it just pisses me off!!! pissed

I was watching one of his old concerts on TV recently, and his whole fret-tapping technique was just amazing!!! eyepop The harmonics, the precision, the soul, everything about it was incredible. He could whip Eddie Van Halen's ass in that style easily. He just makes me so jealous with rage!!! I mean, how could a guitarist be THAT amazing??!!! I've got a hell of a lot of work to do. guitar

Stanley Jordan is pretty intimidating. Oddly enough, I showed a video of one of his performances to some of my guitar playing friends and one of them had almost the exact same reaction lol, and they didn't really have the same reaction to videos by John Petrucci, Allan Holdsworth or Shawn Lane eek

Stanley Jordan is a monster on guitar. There are very few guitarists around who can touch him. What do you do when the man is playing the bassline, the chords and the melody on guitar? How can you hate? He's in a class by himself. Anyone dissing his playing is jealous. I've met him on several occasions. He's a laid back dude to be one of the greatest players in the world. Shawn was laid back, too. (R.I.P.) Steve Vai is an egomaniac but a funny ass cat. As much as I like his style, he can't touch Stanley, though.

Agreed. I've been fortuante to see Stanley in concert and he's masterful with his two handed technique.

His "Cornucopia" album is incredible! He's got the performances with the quartet where he just plays that HELL outta tunes like Autumn Leaves but then he goes and does his solo fret-tapping thing and it just blows your mind!

I heard he was discovered as a street performer, does anyone know if that's true?

He is one of my all time favorite guitarist. He gives me chills and is awesome to watch. I hadn’t followed him in the last few years tho but he came up in a guitar thread here on the Org just a little while ago and someone (cna't remember who) updated me on his commitment to musical therapy. Good work.
Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Yup! although he was classically trained, and he had earned a degree in music theory and composition from Princeton, he was making a living as a street musician, playing in cities like New York and Philly.
