I know Diana is no Jazz singer, but I actually liked her version of certain songs in "Lady sings the Blue". I especially loved her version of "Good morning heartache". I am not saying she sang those songs better than Billie, however she gave them her own unique sound.

I've seen the movie millions of times and I've come to the conclusion that she played the part down to a tee! I mean, even though she didn't look or sound like her, she captured the essence of Billie very well and she probably helped introduce her music to new legions of people. I'm glad she got that Oscar nomination also because she deserved all the acclaim her that role. Good Morning Heartache and Lover Man (Oh Where Can You Be) are two of my favorite music sequences of the film.

Me too! The LSTB soundtrack is very skimpy and run-together in parts with the film dialogue and shorter songs. I wish there was a deluxe edition with the best Blue and selected LSTB cuts!

She was good. The script, on the other hand...It's a classic if you block out any knowledge of Billie Holiday.

Anyway, although nothing could ever compare to the original Diana did a great job covering Billie's songs. I think Diana should think about recording some more Jazz type songs in the future 'cause it really suits her voice.

Basically, the film served as an interpreatation of Billie's life and the highs and lows which shaped her musical style. The story was tragic but it a great love story and gave an inside view into what the singers motivation.
