A more astute genealogy points to Jimi Hendrix, Sly & Family Stone, Cream, Beatles as well as James Brown. What the Bootsy-led contingent brought over to Clinton from JB was a strict discipline of playing funk beats "on the One". JB did not feature loud amped-up lead guitar (Cream & Hendrix) nor hippified band interplay (Sly) and costumery (Sly and Mardi Gras traditions). Credit all but JB for the psychedlic imagery in the lyrics.

Maybe you need to read more books and ANALYZE your findings more before you post your conclusions.

Oh hell fuckin' naw! Where in the hell did you get that funk only lasted until 1977? Where the hell were you in the early 1980s? Funk dominated R&B radio during the early 1980s all the way up until 1985 when Shitney Ass Houston brought her tired ass on the scene and slowed every thing down to adult contemporary. Even in the late 1980s, funk still existed, it just wasn't as dominant as before.

As for shit hop lasting so long, unlike funk, shit hop was picked up by preppy white kids in the suburbs. Record labels saw a huge market for it and also loved the fact that it was the cheapest form of music (if that's what you want to call it) that could be made. They signed the hell out of shit hop acts and kept everyone and everything that might threaten it out. That's why shit hop is still around.

So where were you between 1978-88?

Do you realize that you overlook the funk history of Rick James, Prince, Cameo, Roger/Zapp, Dazz Band, The Gap Band, Bar-Kays, Trouble Funk, Ready For The World, Full Force, The Deele, & E.U.?

Don't worry about it andy. this mirror chap is obviously a complete moron who knows jack shit about music. he's just trying to rile people up and i think the best thing to do is ignore him. he doesn't even realise there wouldnt even be any hip-hop without funk. hell, take away "funky drummer" and "more bounce" alone and hip-hop probably loses a couple of thousand songs lol

I just noticed the part that he posted about funk lasting so long and then we moved to disco. Well, funk existed during the disco era and continued on after disco's death. As a matter of fact, disco was really simply modernized funk with a faster tempo. Disco's existence made it's mark on a lot of funk's tempo even after disco died.

When he said "we moved on to disco" but he thinks there was no funk during or after disco, apparently he must have listened to pop radio. True, after disco's death, there was no trace of funk or disco on pop radio. To pop listeners, yeah funk was dead because they had no knowledge of it. However, on R&B radio, it dominated.

Oh, I could see that on another thread when he said "Beyonce saved today's music". lol However, for somebody to make a statement that funk died in 1977, I couldn't resist that one. lol

While pop listeners were playing Christoper Cross & Air Supply, R&B listeners were jamming to funk (with synths playing all the horn parts). cool

DID ALL THE PFUNK MOFO'S COME FROM JAMES BROWN OR NOT?

Initially, Bootsy and Catfish left James Brown to work with Clinton, but Catfish played primarily in Bootsy's Rubberband, not PFunk. Maceo and Fred Wesley followed later ( and returned to JB at different time onlt to leave again). There were still 18 - 20 other PFunk mob members who hadn't done diddly for James Brown

Well, actually

Bootsy and em' left James Brown to form their own band, The Houseguests..

Made a few singles....

They didn't know anything about Funkadelic

It was Marlia Franklin who introduce Bootsy to George...

In fact. they were suppose to battled Funkadelic to see who was the baddest, but wound up being Funkadelic, when the original members left over money dispute..

Bootsy and em' left for a minute to form The Complete Strangers...

Then they return to George afterwards, and the rest is history biggrin

Most of the guys that Bootsy formed the Houseguests/Bootsy's Rubber Band with were NOT in James Brown's band. Please shut up now.

Boots stated that once he had his thang together, he was gonna get the rest of em'

He really wanted to get James & George in the studio together, but it didn't quite work out.

James got mad at George for cussin' around his woman lol
