I'm in a late 80's mood right now listening to buffalo stance, iko iko, every little step, wishing well and other awesome r&b and dance/pop stuff right now. I know people here think the late 80's were weak, but when I listen to songs from then, it takes me back to a time when I was in kindergarten and life wasn't as busy as now [Edited 6/11/07 0:39am]

What I hate most about the late 80s is that annoying,programmed,over-synthesized sound that you hear on so many of those songs y'all know the songs I'm talking about (Billy Ocean's "Get Outta My Dreams,Get Into My Car",which went to Number One in 1988,is a prime example). These days, that music sounds horribly dated.

i think that music is on the retro-kitsch comeback trail, which of course means within 5 years or so it'll go from being "kitschy" to being taken seriously as "classic".

a lot of today's songs are influenced by the 80's sound but you can tell it's brand new because of the polished sound and the way they sing (or try to)
I agree that billy ocean song was horrible, don't even get me started on the cheesy video
