Yoko is perceived as the end of the Beatles. Partly that's right. The moment she entered the picture the Beatles could barely be in the same room together, where immediately before her, they were still a unit, and more or less a happy unit.
John brought her into their recording sessions. Something nobody had ever done before, and it offended the others, especially when she made suggestions. Also John cheated on his wife to be with her--dumped his family. Also, racism may have played a small role. John became more difficult and withdrawn around the band, partly due to feelings he had been having for years, but partly because he'd found another partner (his only other partner had been Paul) But Lennon also started using heroin when he met Yoko, and that will break up a band fast, too. But, for all of John's perceived craziness after meeting Yoko, it was the first time in his life that he treated a woman with respect and as an equal. The new John couldn't stand to be in the Beatles, but he was also more true to his feelings, and couldn't let image or money stand in the way of living his live the way he wanted to. If she hadn't come along, the Beatles might still be together, but they might have become some lame ass watered down version of themselves, and John (and the others just by association) wouldn't be nearly the legend he is today.
Like her or not, Yoko's part of The Story My Legacy

I just like blaming him for Cibo Matto's break up.....don't know the real reason. ME TOO! that's okay. we have 'Edysis' as a sort of panacea to comfort us...sort of. Very Bjork influenced. There were a few songs on there that I really liked, that could've gone on Viva La Woman, like "Sci-Fi Wasabi" , Blue Train, "Working For Vacation". They toned it down a lot for that album.....focused more on harmonies and a pop sound rather than innovation. I didn't hate the album, it's just after Viva, you're kinda expecting an even crazier album. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

Some Beatles fans seem to be rather personal when it comes to her to the point where some of them even blame HER for Lennon's death yoko is a strong woman who creates very polarizing art, which john found attractive and which influenced him to go in other directions, much to the dismay of his beatle fans. i'm not going to get into it with the yoko-haters who are bound to creep into this thread any moment, but i think she's an amazing woman whose art is very spiritual and even very witty, if people are willing to take the time to look beyond the "weird" surface of it. i think she and john loved each other very much and they fed each other as artists. that's all that matters. I just couldn't get past her screaching...whaling...caterwauling....whaterever the hell kind of sound she was making on the Rollings Stones rock n roll circus from 1968. George had already quit the group a bunch of times, Paul was ready to be a solo performer, Ringo pretty much wanted to do movies and things like that, and John needed an interest too. The big problem the Beatles had were that the creative forces of Paul,John and Goerge were all growing very fast, and they were tired of being stifled by the group and the image, thats why they broke up, nothing to do with Yoko. Now in terms of certain things she has done i do have issues, mainly the whole Julian Lennon issue still bothers me, basically Julian spent money that his father gave him to actually go to auctions to buy his fathers art work and things for himself because nothing was given to him or even asked if he wanted it. Julian ironically, is much like his dad, but as Julian said "His dad song about love and peace, but i never saw that love". John was very flawed, and he said it himself, ironically, in his last interview dec 8th, he spoke of how he screwed up julian, and wanted to fix it.

I'm not very familiar with Yoko Ono's background and material.
All i'll say is that your first exposure to her had better not be... ...her "appearance" (make note of the shroud at Keef's feet in the first pic) during the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. She's not prominent on any Beatles songs & I've never heard Her & John's avant garde lp's, so they've never bugged me. But I imagine someone who was there at the time might be pretty disturbed by an appearance or album from John that degenerates into some strange woman screaming "EEEEE!!!" My Legacy

jacktheimprovident said: Well I'm hardly an expert on the subject but of course the biggest reason is the idea that she was responsible for breaking up the Beatles by steering John into ever-more artsy and pretentious territory and for presumptuously trying to control or influence the group's music when she wasn't a member, which the others resented.
From what from little I know of the Beatles' breakup, all of that was true, and it was certainly a contributing factor to the breakup but hardly the only or biggest one. Paul's increasing domineering behavior towards the rest of the group was probably a bigger factor, as was just their increasing divergent musical identities, and George in particular was stifling in a group where he was relegated to two songs an album. I personally just think Yoko's music sucks, she comes across as very pretentious and the musical influence she had on John was sometimes downright dreadful (eg. all of John's solo material prior to Plastic Ono Band if you ask me). Basically I don't like her, but don't have the vehement hatred many others have. [Edited 6/10/07 18:35pm] And don't forget that John started seeing Yoko while still married to Cynthia. A LOT of white people hated Yoko for THIS crap alone.

Another thing that's even more screw up is the fact that the first and only paycheck that Yoko send to Julian was for $.50!
