70s soul album of the day: 'Harvest For The World' by the Isley Bros (1976)

In another thread,I was talking about my weekend trip to the record store where I bought a few Blackbyrds CDs.I also picked up the remaster of the Isley Bros' 'Harvest For The World':

Isley fans....how does this album stack up to the others? Is this one of your favorites? This has got to be my favorite Isley Brothers album.

*Their* first, not *the* first, of course.

It stands up among the best if not the best.
My personal favorite though is go all the way.
Anyone could argue for the 3+3, go for your guns, and showdown as well.
You may even have some making a case for between the sheets which i would
rank below all these other albums. Like EWF, the isleys have a large catalogue
of classic singles and albums.

I love the Harvest Prelude that goes right into "Harvest For The World"...One of Ron's most passionate vocal tracks! I also love Who Loves You Better (Ernie kills on the guitar solo!!), and At Your Best, You Are Love, and Let Me Down Easy.....

I would say that this one might be in the running for my third favorite, after The Heat Is On, and Go For Your Guns....currrently though, it's fighting with "Showdown" and "Live it Up" for that third spot, lol!!

This is third for me, too but I put Live It Up at #1. The remaster of this one - as with all their remasters - is definitely worth picking up. The audio, the extra tracks, the liner notes, it's all drool inducing for me.

And I don't see this one as disco at all. The ballads are the best thing about it for me.

Aight aight. I don't own a copy of the album, but I remember reading somewhere that it was a bit discoish, so I thought I'd ask smile

"Harvest" is definitely one of their best imo, it includes 2 of my favorite Isley tracks "Who Loves You Better" and "At Your Best". And I co-sign with Paligap and RipHer2Shreds both, "Harvest For The World" would be my third favorite Isley Brothers album behind "The Heat Is On" at #2 and "Go For Your Guns" at #1.

3+3 is my favorite, but this one may be #2. It's certainly up there.

My brother had the album. I remember him listening to it everyday.
That album was off the hook. By the way has anyone heard Power Station's remake of harvest for the world. in my opinion their version is right up there with the Isley Bros's version, Robert Palmer's (may u rest in peace)vocals were on point
why in God's name do u wanna make me cry

That wasn't Robert Palmer singing. That was Andy Taylor. And I agree - I like Power Station's version.

y'know, the more I think about it, "Live it Up" might be inching it's way to number #2 -- "Brown Eyed Girl" and "Lover's Eve" might be my two all-time favorite Isley tunes !!!

I personally love Inside You. It was one of the last 70s sounding Isley album. After that, they came out with "Between The Sheets". With that album, they had a "fresher" sound.

My favorites on Inside You are "Baby Hold On", "Love Merry Go Round" and the title track.

For some reason,'Inside You' gets a bad rap.Fans says that it's formulaic and predictable.I've never heard it,though.I'll get it eventually.

The following albums you mentioned were my shit back in the day. I have found memories sitting on my bean bag listening to the cuts. I would jam them either on wax or 8 track. The fun part was trying to play some the chords on my mom's accoustic guitar back then.

Some critics say the that first single "Who Loves You Better" is disco-ish,but I don't hear it at all confuse The Isleys never really jumped on the disco bandwagon.Even their 1979 hit "It's A Disco Night" isn't truly disco, imo.
