Instrumental Cut of the Day - Cast Your Fate to the Wind

This Vince Guaraldi piece has been a favorite instrumental of mine ever since I initially heard the single in 1962.

Most folks recognize his piano as the "musical personality"...

...behind the Peanuts soundtracks.

Cast Your Fate to the Wind was the single released from his...

...Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus album.

Due to the success of the single, it was repackaged and renamed.
It was remastered and rereleased in 1991.

After holding down the piano spot for artists as diverse as Woody Herman, Nina Simone, Cal Tjader, Stan Getz, Mongo Santamaria and Jimmy Witherspoon, Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus would have to be considered his breakout album.

The song has been heavily covered over the years...

...(just to illustrate a few)

I think my favorite cover is probably Joe Walsh's echoplexed psychedelic James Gang take...

...during The Bomber sequence from Rides Again.

Not too long ago, I heard an interesting version by the Electronic duo of Dave Stewart & Barbara Gaskin...They did it as a medley along with "Louie Louie" (??!!!) on their album, Spin

So beautiful ~ I always thought it was one of the most perfectly titled works.
