All of these are in my top 25 of the decade. It's really been a fantastic year for music so far!

I have so many greatest hits and reissues, that I can't remember which ones I bought in 2007 either.

even though i liked "chaos and creation" a lot, i'm scared to listen to the new one. i'm hearing so much positive hype about it, i'll be really disappointed if i listen and it's so-so. i'm sure i'll get really bored one day and take the risk...

Anxiety, I can understand your apprehension. With new CD releases, there's always an element of risk involved b/c an artist is experiementing. However in Paul's case, he went back in his treasures case of temple of familiar and channeled Harrison and Lennon.

Dammitt, they still don't have these in any of the record stores in my area! The record store can special order them for me, but I had hoped they would have the good sense to keep them in stock on their own without being asked.

I'm in Mississippi. I only order off the internet as a last resort because I hate putting my credit card number into a site and having "cookies" (or whatever these computer terms are) that have followed me from site to site, find out my number.

The record store can definately order it for me but I was just waiting around to see if it would come in on it's own. These record stores are losing it these days. The last few times I was in there, they had taken basically all the full albums out by older artists and only carried their greatest hits compilations (if that). I was looking to buy some Ohio Players albums (which were in there a few months ago) and they had absolutely nothing in the store by them. However....they had a shelf and a half of the same CD by these current artists. I can see keeping more of the current artists in the stores because that's what sells the most but they don't even have one Chromeo CD, which is also a current group. Apparently, if a current artist doesn't make bullshit, they aren't going to carry their product. It's getting to be rediculous.

I count what gets released in my country this year: Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen, The Long Blondes--all are eligible to me even though their albums were released in the U.K. last year. Now if I lived in England it would be a different story. Those are my rules.

1. NIN - Year Zero
2. The National - Boxer
3. Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
4. The Shins - Wincing the Night Away
5. Grinderman - Grinderman
6. Bjork - Volta
7. Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
8. Low - Drums & Guns
9. Kristen Hersh - Learn to Sing Like a Star

The usual suspects.
Bonus Question: Black Francis - Bluefinger. Due out in September. But with the Cure, SP, Prince on the horizon, it's way too early to tell...
"I got the devil in me, girl." - 'John the Baptist', Afghan Whigs
"Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself."

You wouldn't want me in any position of power. I'd rule with an iron fist. God help orgers if I became a mod. lol

Back to my rules, one exception would be that a 2007 U.S. release is ineligible if the import charted the previous year--like Joan As Police Woman's album is coming out domestically this month, but it can't make my 2007 list because the import was my #4 album of last year. sad

I think my rules are perfectly logical. You can't have an album be a favorite for two different years. That's real anarchy right there. nuts

It's the same with Goldfrapp from last year. I think US release dates should count. Many of us didn't even know she existed until this year.
